For instance, the guitar playing is meant so that the listener can remember it. The guitar work sounds inspired by the classics, without sounding retro, in my opinion. It's crafted well, it's catchy, with some shredding, a bit of old school melodies. Or, consider the vocals: there are subtle traits that make the growling appealing. It's not the microphone-cupping lazy-growling. It's growling that is more nuanced and with more color. You might hear some Warrior/Petrov/Reifert-ish ughs, args, woofs and screams.

According to Facebook, this is the band: Jesse Jardine: guitars/vocals Zakk Garrett: bass Stephen Shaw: drums Rene Wilkinson: guitars The band's bio states: "Assimilation is an old school inspired Death/Thrash band from Vancouver BC Canada. Jesse Jardine, the founding member, started the band in 2011 as the grind variant, Ceaseless Discharge. after many lineup changes and after developing a more cohesive and focused sound, the name of the band was changed to Assimilation.

We have been steadily playing shows building our fan base over the past year. Our members include Steven Shaw, drummer for Death Grind band Sinned. Rene Wilkinson from Vancouver thrash kings, Terrifier, and Zak Garrett from local punk rock band Brass.

We recently finished our debut ep, apotheosis. featuring four tracks written over 4 years, representing the growth of the band, and the direction we wish to continue in. The album released on September, 2nd, 2015."

Chastain We Bleed Metal PURE STEEL RECORDS RELEASE: 6th November 2015

“We Bleed Metal” is what happens when the rifforama wizard of shredding David T. Chastain forms an alliance with the voice of heavy metal Leather Leone. It’s traditional heavy metal that hits all the right buttons, and what a treat this album should be for supporters of high caliber heavy metal. Mr. Chastain puts his craft in the service of songs. The balancing of shredding skill and songwriting on this album works very well. They give you fast songs, uptempo rockers, the midpace stompers, some slower moments, melodic hooks, shredding (of course!), and everything else. I am pleased with this album. It’s everything that I could have hoped. There’s real variety in the songwriting. Chastain has a discography that stretches back to the 80s and now things have come full circle. At this point, Chastain—like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, and U.D.O—sounds like they are

having fun making the music that they want. They know how to do it very well, how to get the sound that they want. I, for one, do appreciate the work of Mr. Chastain, Leather Leone and company. It’s fantastic to have the classic Chastain sound in today’s world. It’s a bit classic, a bit traditional and a bit modern, incorporating both worlds, and it’s Chastain all the way. If you support traditional heavy metal with talent, serious guitar, real singing and rocking songs, and you have never given Chastain your support, I think this new album is as perfect an invitation as there is. Or, if you are older, and you lost track of Chastain and you are wondering whether they still got it, you might feel embarrassed for even having doubts after you hear this album, which is the second one since Leather rejoined Chastain. The previous album is called “Surrender to No One” (2013). The band is: vocalist Leather Leone bassist Mike Skimmerhorn drummer Stian Kristoffersen (Pagan's Mind, Firewind) guitarist David T. Chastain Remember: this album comes November 6th, 2015. Put it on your list. www.puresteel-records.com

Overthrust This traditional death metal band from Botswana has an album called "Desecrated Deeds to Decease". Metal Archives says that this is the band’s debut. I have been listening to the music this week and I noticed the care that they have taken to make quality, traditional death metal that packs headbanging energy, metal music that communicates easily with listeners. It is death metal, but the music also reflects the values of traditional heavy metal: writing songs, having riffs, and rocking out. Who is this band? The band explains that “Overthrust is an old school death metal band, originating from the capital city of Kalahari desert-Ghanzi-Botswana, with the most over thrusting, underground and aggressive beats, lyrics and harsh growling vocals of death metal. The theme of Overthrust songs is about dirty deeds, reality of life and death. We criticize people claiming/pretending and faking to be Angels and by doing so judging people who are not believers,” (from their bio).

They say that they formed the band in 2008, but they became active in 2010. They released the single track "Freedom in the Dark" in April 2011. After all the time, they have the full-length album! They have persevered for metal music and now they have to show for it:

"Desecrated Deeds to Decease" (May 2015, says Metal Archives) 1.Slay the Spectator 2.Poltergeist of Torment 3.Vultures Don't Die 4.Soul to Feed 5.Desecrated Deeds to Decease 6.Psychomatic Torture 7.Welcome to the Mortuary 8.Bogus Vicars 9.Vallains See No Future

Windfaerer Tenebrosum independent Release: 22 September 2015 Have you ever heard fast, melodic black metal that also utilizes a violin? The violin is an integral part of the sound of the band, not a guest instrument. The album is the coming together of black metal and classical music for a journey of the imagination. It’s not nearly as strange as you may be thinking, and the overall sound gives the band a face of its own. Windfaerer (U.S.) is headbanging music, though, so don’t get the wrong impression. This is not some sort of experimental/weirdo band. Emperor used keyboards to enhance its black metal. Windfaerer uses the violin to enhance its black metal. What is great about the band is that the musicians believe in song-centered music, and that means that they know how to keep things on point. They seem to have a real good grasp of the idea of not making music for musicians, as if they said to themselves that at the end of the day Windfaerer is black metal and they are satisfied with that (the band calls itself “extreme metal”). This album goes a long way towards showing what the band can do. The music is fast, and the melodies and the violin give the songs the Windfaerer identity. Highly recommended for people who like the idea of melodic black metal, but that perhaps don’t like the lower quality recordings associated with black metal. Listeners into fast “melodic death metal” should find the band interesting, too.

The band is: Michael Gonçalves - vocals, guitars, bass Benjamin Karas - electric & acoustic violins JP Andrade - drums Pete Lloyd - guitars Michael Muñoz – bass www.windfaerer.bandcamp.com www.facebook.com/windfaerer ** Scáth Na Déithe Free EP of black metal from Ireland; free when last checked on October 7th, 2015. Even though there is not much information about this project on its Facebook page nor on Metal Archives, for supporters of black metal looking to hear a new band this music could be very enjoyable. It's black metal, but more needs to be said about it. The music sometimes goes at a blasting speed, but that's not the only vibe. Another vibe is a massive black metal heaviness played at doom-ish tempos, incorporating melancholy and melody.

The tremolo guitar work sounds very good in the context of the doom atmosphere and heaviness. Also, when I say doom, I do not mean super slow sloth slug lazy chord plucking. It means simply midtempo vibes. Anyway, if you are ready for black metal with a doom twist, with melancholy, look into this music. Endzeit Free EP of black metal from Finland. Last checked on October 7th, 2015. The band calls its music "raw apocalyptic black metal" and they are right to give it such a name because this is true, traditional black metal. The Marduk, Enthroned, Endstille, Dark Funeral fanatics that seek new upfront black metal to hear, Endzeit is for them. So far the band has one EP, but they say that they are working on the second one for this year. We'll see. In the meantime this EP is a good introduction to "raw apocalyptic black metal" from Finland.

This is the band's bio: "Endzeit was conceived in late 2012 when the ‘Years of Hunger’ EP was written. Intentionally set out to be a raw black metal project by Polaris, the recruitment of Schwarz on vocals, Samuli on drums and Pyry on bass has turned Endzeit into a band venturing to spread pure black metal. Lyrically the songs deal with a futureless life in a post-apocalyptic world. References to religious contexts can be found, yet reflecting a godless narrative. The inspiration to embed the decay of life, the decay of happiness and the absence of a future into the band’s musical and lyrical concept was triggered by the decay of the city of Detroit where modern capitalism has failed. Only haggard human shadows now dwell in the smouldering rubble."

"The Years of Hunger" (September 13th, 2014) 1.Inception 2.Hunger 3.Godless 4.Life? 5.The Dawn No More Rises (Dark Funeral cover) The band is: Schwarz: guitars, vocals Polaris: guitars Pyry: bass Samuli: drums www.endzeitblackmetal.bandcamp.com/releases email: [email protected] www.facebook.com/endzeitofficial * DORHN Alicia Warrington's one-person groove growl metal project is called DORHN. Right now I don't have a lot of music to report to you, but I can tell you that below you can hear for yourself the two songs that are available on Bandcamp. She calls the music "brutal death metal" and "doom/sludge" and it's got some heavy grooves coming your way.

What is next for this project? Who knows? At this point, I can tell you that if you support a band like Six Feet Under and anything heavy, chugging and grooving, then you would be

the perfect person for this heaviness. There are two songs for you to hear and they are called "Levels of Hate" and "Becoming the Disease." www.dohrn.bandcamp.com/music www.facebook.com/dohrnmusic www.twitter.com/dohrnmusic email: [email protected] * Mordrean Mordrean is the one-person raw/necro cave black metal entity of Demona. At Bandcamp you can hear the complete recording, which is called "Under the Black Frost." Demona says Mordrean started in 2013.

The name reportedly comes from a "tale about a warrior who was betrayed by her clan, but after having received the dark gift she found shelter in the darkness of the night and strength to shed the blood of those who betrayed her." Mordrean is originally from Curitiba-PR, Brazil, but Metal Archives lists California, U.S. as the current residence. This is straight-up necro black metal that rages in the wild, with no regard for sophistication and beauty. The music is ugly and insane, and it sounds awesome. If you know that raw black metal is music for you, then you'll be alright, you can hang with this recording. "Under the Black Frost" by Mordrean (March 10th, 2014) 1.Under the Black Frost 06:37 2.Philosophical Winter 06:22
