Breakfast at the Manger. Come have breakfast with the animals! On Saturday, December 9, from 10-11:30 am in the Fellowship Hall, all children are invited to Breakfast at the Manger. We’ll have live animals, crafts, songs, food, and of course, the Christmas story. Sign up in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays November 26 and December 3, or email Robin Ringler at [email protected]. Please plan to bring a donation of new baby clothes or new baby items (diapers, etc.) for ECHO.
Handel’s Messiah Performance is Sunday, December 3 at 3 pm, in the sanctuary. Come and experience the beauty of Messiah United Methodist Church’s 28th season presenting Part I of this glorious masterwork. It will be performed by the Messiah Community Chorus joined by professional orchestra and soloists. Be present as time stands still and we pause to mark the first Sunday of Advent by offering this free musical gift to our community.
Got Gift Cards? The Weekend Backpack Program Team is collecting $25.00 Giant Grocery Gift cards for each of the 306 families served each week by our ministry. That's a lot of gift cards, but it is a way for us to show our love and continued support for these food insecure families living in Springfield. You can either drop a Giant Gift Card in the yellow collection box found in the Narthex or make a financial contribution by noting WBP CHRISTMAS on the memo line of your check made out to Messiah UMC. The Giving Tree Ministry helps needy families in our
community by providing Christmas gifts. Tags will be available Today with the last tags distributed on December 3. Gifts must be delivered on December 10. Parts Unknown will be attending the United States Army Band American Holiday Festival performance at DAR on Saturday, December 2. Free tickets and sign-ups will be at the Welcome Center between services Today. For the concert, we will leave Messiah at 11 am and eat downtown at the JW Marriott, 1331 Pennsylvania Ave NW DC, Upper Deck Mezzanine; then walk over to DAR Constitution Hall before 2:00. Space is limited in the church vans so please let us know if you plan to ride with us. We are also looking for authorized volunteers to drive. All seating for the performance is General Admission, which means there are no assigned seat. It will be a first-come, first-served basis. DAR Constitution Hall has wheelchair accessible seating but no reservations for these seats can be made in advance. This show will last approximately 90 minutes with NO intermission. The perfect Christmas gift for the person who has everything. This year’s Sunday School Advent Mission focus is hurricane relief through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Please consider making a donation in honor of someone and you’ll receive a beautiful hand-made Christmas card you can send, explaining your gift. UMCOR is coordinating The United Methodist Church’s response to the devastating 2017 hurricane season. Contribution to UMCOR will be accepted Sunday mornings in the Sunday School office (room 161 downstairs) or in the Fellowship Hall between 10:30 – 11 am. Questions? Advent Devotionals are here. Advent begins Sunday, December 3. Please be sure to pick up an Advent devotional from the table in the narthex, near the welcome center. Advent: A Calendar of Devotions by Donald K. McKim provides inspirational daily readings to enhance your spiritual journey through this time of anticipation, joy and hope. There are also two special Advent booklet options for children, based on their age.
