ORDER A LULAV AND ETROG FOR SUKKOT & EARN DOLLARS FOR OUR SHUL!

As the High Holy Day season approaches, your synagogue becomes a very active place. Much hard work by the office staff and a multitude of volunteers will insure that the congregation has an enjoyable religious and spiritual experience. The synagogue we have renovated creates a

wonderful environment in which to worship. Led by our dedicated and learned clergy, it provides everyone with an opportunity to take some time to reflect on how we can do better next year. The mahzor contains extensive explanatory notes on the structure and content of the services. Take some extra time to learn why we do what we do on the High Holy Days.

The major topic of discussion at the last board meeting was the new requirement of showing a ticket to gain entry into the synagogue throughout the High Holy Days. This was done for a variety of reasons; the primary being to increase our security measures to keep the environment safe for our congregants. We have always had visible and not so visible security, but we have never actually limited who could enter. This year and henceforth, tickets will be required. For those who have their tickets, they simply show them to security personnel at the door and enter. We have made extensive arrangements for those congregants who may have forgotten to bring their tickets or not obtained enough tickets for themselves or their family members. There may be a slight delay but under no circumstances will anyone that belongs to the synagogue be turned away. With this in mind, it may be wise to come a little earlier, especially on Kol Nidre. With patience and cooperation, we should all be able to enjoy the High Holy Days safely. I hope that everyone has a happy and healthy new year and an easy fast!

2016 HIGH HOLY DAY SECURITY PROCEDURES

The Anti-Defamation League has published their security recommendations for the High Holy Days. Emphasized in their

guidelines are recommendations to establish procedures for controlling access into our facility. This year, Adath Jeshurun is implementing increased security measures to continue to keep you safe. The procedures will work as follows: • Attendees will be asked to show their issued tickets to

security personnel stationed at both entrances.

• Attendees with tickets will be directed to go right into the building.

• Attendees who have tickets, but forget to bring them,

will be directed to the “Lost Ticket” tables. Volunteers will look up their names on a list, and issue replacement tickets.

• AJ members who did not purchase tickets will need to

obtain tickets. Billing information will be recorded at the tables and tickets will be issued.

• AJ Members who have children in grades six and above

for whom they did not purchase tickets will be required to have tickets. This policy also applies to adult children. Billing information will be recorded at the tables and tickets will be issued.

• Non-members will be asked for identification. Billing information will be recorded at the tables and tickets will be issued. Non-members who subsequently join AJ in this calendar year will have their ticket payments refunded!

• Military personnel or non-member college students will

be asked for identification. Their contact information will be recorded, and they will be issued a complimentary ticket.

AJ members who would like to attend services, but who cannot afford the cost of a ticket are encouraged to contact Rabbi Robert Slosberg at [email protected] or 458-5359 as soon as possible.
