Plans for a New Photo Directory

Wouldnt it be great to have a directory of phone numbers and addresses that had photos right next to the information, rather than the two things being in different sections? Thats exactly what some clever folks in our church are planning to produce!!

Pictures will be taken in-house, not by an outside company. There will be several Sundays scheduled so that you will be able to have your picture taken after church. Pictures will be taken in-house Or, you may submit your own photo. Youll have an oppor-tunity to update your information for the directory at the time your picture is taken or when you submit your own photo.

The new directories will be produced in the office using the Power Church software that we already have. EVERYONE will receive a free copy of this exciting and helpful new directory! Be watching for dates of the photo shoots, and plan to be present!

SEPTEMBER MISSION FOCUS

To Walk or Not to Walk! That is your choice!

Our September Mission Focus is the Annual Family Promise Walk. Last year in September 2021, the walk was a virtual event due to COVID. Participants were encouraged to walk on their own and make a donation to Family Promise/IHN. There was a prize for the church that raised the most money, and Central was the winner!!!

Can we do it again? This year, on Sunday afternoon, October 3, there will be an actual walk in the downtown area. BUT!! You can choose to walk or not to walk. That is your choice. You can join the group who will meet at church and go downtown together, or you can be at home, cheering them on! Whatever you decide, you are invited to support Family Promise with a contribution on any Sunday in September. Please write your check to Central UMC, designated FP Walk. Youll be helping Central to be the big winner again, and MOST IMPORTANT, youll be helping

families with children who are facing homelessness.

The pretty quilted wall hanging pictured here was awarded

to us for our outstanding contribution of $1310, the most

of any of the IHN congregations! You can see the quilt and

our award certificate hanging in the main hallway near

the nursery.

Central United Methodist Church 4373 Galley Road Colorado Springs, CO 80915 ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED

A Hop, Skip and a Jump thru the Bible!

On Tuesday, September 14th, you are invited to join a fun group of people

to begin a 13-week journey through the Bible. In the book titled A Hope, Skip and a Jump thru the Bible, popular author J. Ellsworth Kalas pre-sents the grand story of the Bible. Writing in his engaging, narrative style, Kalas takes readers through the different books of the Bible, providing de-scriptions, reflection, and context, showing how there is an overarching plot that binds all of the varied writings of the Bible together.

Kalas highlights the wonders of the Bible for readers both familiar and unfamiliar with them, and shows how the Bible isnt just a collection of stories of the past, but rather it is our own continuing story of God and Gods relationship with the human race.

This would be the perfect time to try a Bible study! Well be meeting both in-person and on

Zoom at 9:30 on Tuesday mornings in the Conference Room. Class is guided by Rev. Judy.

Books ($9) are available in the office or at the first class.

- Robert (aka Bob/Barney) Rummel, Stewardship Committee

Tithing means many different things to different people. What does it mean to you? When you hear that Stewardship Sunday is approaching, do you immediately smile with joy; or act as if the dentist told you a root canal is in the near future?

Regardless of what the Bible says about tithing; and it began very early in the Bible, specifically Genesis 14, verse 20. Although it does not mention the word tithing in the NIV version, it indicates that Abram (prior to being called Abraham) gave 10% of all he had to Melchizedek, King of Salem. From that time on, it continues to describe, or encourage us about the importance of giving.

But, what does tithing, or giving mean to you? Is it an obligation, or do you consider it a blessing to give in support of the Lord‛s work? The meaning of tithing must be a decision each person, each couple, or each household makes for their self. It should be an amount that you feel comfortable giving, which does not keep you from paying the bills; buying groceries, or making the mort-gage/rent payment.

We know that every single church, including Central, has financial obliga-tions. Our congregation is the hands of Jesus whether we are helping oth-ers, carrying out His work in our neighborhood, or volunteering for one of the many committees, or tasks which help keep the church going. Thank each and every one of you for your past giving, and please join me in praying that our church will continue to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ as it continues to be supported by your gifts.

I want to thank Ernie Dunbar for his many years of leadership, dedication and contributions to the Stewardship Committee. Please join me in that effort, the next time you see him.

Fresh and Clean For School or Work!

Food Sunday, September 5

Please bring donations of hygiene items or non-perishable food to the cart in the entry on Food Sunday or anytime during September.

The pantry at Mercys Gate is requesting donations of toiletries, such as sham-poo, deodorant, shaving foam, razors, tooth paste and tooth brushes, soaps and feminine hygiene products. These are items not covered by food stamps.

They also need diapers and wipes.
