Thought for the week…
‘When everything seems like
an uphill struggle, just think of
the view from the top’
Author Unknown
Welcome back Year 8, I hope that you managed to have a relaxing half term and enjoyed the lovely weather. In the Wright
house we certainly made good use of the weather spending lots of time in the garden, going out on walks and bike rides
and even completed a couple of nights camping in our garden – much warmer than when we camped out back in March!
Over half term I also used this time to think about the things that being in lockdown has enabled me to do. Being able to
get my daughter to ride her bike successfully, spending more quality time with my family, doing weekly online quizzes with
both sides of my family and keeping in touch more with some of my friends, are just a few things to name. I wonder if you
can have a think about the things you’ve been able to do, or the family you’ve managed to catch up with? It’s back to
normal timetables for both yourselves and your teachers this week, so remember to only spend an hour on each subject,
ask your teachers for help and have patience with those who are trying to help and encourage you at home.
Stay safe
Mr Wright

Challenge yourself this week….
Last week’s challenge was to come up with an obstacle course for your family – if you managed to do this,
why not upload your photo to our Year 8 twitter page! This can be done by going to @BurfordYear8 on
twitter or emailing Mr Wright on [email protected]
This week’s challenge – How many kick ups (keepy uppies) can you do? Try videoing
yourself and sending it to Mr Wright with your total. You could do a time-lapse video and
get creative. To get some advice on perfecting your kick ups, click on the picture below:
CELEBRATION WALL!!! Here is where we celebrate how well you are doing. This can

Can you complete an ‘Iron Man’?
A huge well done to Freya W who just before
half term completed an ‘Iron Man’. No, this isn’t
to do with the Marvel films. She managed to
complete a distance of 226km over 10 days. This
consisted of a 3.8km swim (done as strength and
conditioning as couldn’t get out to swim), 180km
bike ride and 42.2km run. I’m sure you would
agree that this is an incredible task.
Well done Freya!

money and have some fun too! You can send me an email [email protected] with your ideas.

Fun Fridays!
Last time’s ‘Fun Friday’ was the
challenge ‘Can you do 10km in May’.
In the Wright household we aimed
to do our best over half term to try
and walk/cycle/scoot and run over
10km! How did you do? Let your
tutor or Mr Wright know and we
can total up how many kilometres
Year 8 have gone.
I asked the staff for their totals over
half term and was AMAZED at the
number of kilometres they covered.
See on the next page just how far
your teachers and support staff
travelled!
This week we are going to have a go
at ‘The Whipped Cream Challenge’!
To find out how it’s done click here.
If you are brave enough to try it why
not send your attempt to

Reminders
Remember to reply back to your tutors’ email
Only spend 1 hour on each subject you would have in your
timetable per day
If you are stuck with work or need help, remember to
contact your teacher via their email address. You can do
this by typing their surname in the ‘To’ part of the email.
Where have the staff got to with their km total?
As mentioned above in the ‘Fun Friday’ challenge, I challenged the staff into
seeing how far they could go during half term with their walks, cycles and runs.
Your teachers and support staff at school have ‘stepped up’ to the challenge
and ‘gone the distance’ over the last half term.
They have totalled up a HUGE 4010.18km which works out at roughly
2419.8 miles!!! So, starting from Burford they would have roughly travelled all
the way to a small village called Degirmenbasi in Turkey! See the map below.
Well done Burford school staff! You have travelled a long way over the half
term! Here are some photos that were sent in by staff of their travels over
the last week…..
