MESSAGE FROM ERIN

Wow Term 4 2018.

Christmas is just around the corner and our

OSCAR children are eagerly awaiting the

festive season.

We have some amazingly fun Christmas crafts

and activities planned for later in the term.

The children have also been celebrating the

diverse cultures we have here at OSCAR.

Samoan Language week saw us learning new

phrases for welcoming and farewelling.

We continue our everyday use of Te Reo Maori

and we all thoroughly enjoyed listening to

Indian music and learning a few dances to

celebrate Diwali.

If you ever have any questions or concerns

about your child’s time at OSCAR, please feel

free to come have a chat.

Nga Mihi

Erin

Inayat, Ryan, Toby, QiQi, Vishwa, Mason, Leo

and their families to OSCAR House Junior

Programme.

We also welcome back Alice.

We trust you will enjoy your time with us!

HEAD LICE

A parent has notified us that their child has had

repeated incidences of head lice.

They are treating their children regularly which

indicates that they are being re-infected.

Could you please check your child for head lice

and treat them if necessary.

It would be appreciated.

ACTIVITIES

HALLOWEEN GHOSTS AND MUMMIES.

What an exciting time of year for many of

OSCAR’s youngest children.

Halloween Ghosts was a simple and fast

activity.

The children used stuffing to form the base of

the ghost then using black ribbon they made a

head and added some spooky eyes to finish

their creations.

Mummies were another easy and fun activity,

the children used masking tape to make

geometric shapes and form the wrapping around

the mummy template.

Spooky and spectacular!

FIREWORKS PASTELS ART

Pastels and black paper were used to make this

simple but effective display.

Bright and vibrant colours made it look like real

fireworks.

Several children spoke about what their

family’s plans were for November 5th

.

SLIME

Slippery, Slimy, Messy and Fun.

Slime is a very popular activity that the children

adore and ask for constantly.

Check out the photo evidence of a super cool

activity.

IRON BEADS

Toby, one of our newest children, recently

made an amazing heart for his mum,

Sienna made a gorgeous peace sign and Melissa

made a spooky ghost.

These are a popular activity for our Junior

children.

WATER PAINTING

Pencils, water, creativity, time and effort = a

great activity for all ages.

The Junior children are always proud of their

creations and staff enjoy watching their

imaginations go wild!

ACTIVE TIME

JUMP JAM & GO NOODLE

When the weather restricts us to indoors, we

have a fast paced, action packed and laugh-a-

minute dance and song session.

This gets our hearts pumping, our body shaking

and our voices louder!

Jump Jam and Go Noodle are a You Tube

phenomenon and are often used in schools too.

Check it out and see if you can keep up with the

moves – the children are very good, but the

staff need some more practice!

SACK RACES

Lots of fun!

We have several techniques being used:

Jump like crazy and end up on the ground

crawling to the finish line.

Use the fact we have tiny little legs and can run

inside the sack to beat our opponents.

Start on the ground and roll like a ball lol.

WATER FUN As the term goes on and the weather gets warmer

and sunnier, we will start our WATER PLAY.

This can consist of Water Fights, Water Relay

Races, Slip & Slide and Hose Downs.

These activities are obviously weather permitting

and at times can be impromptu, so we ask that all

children have a spare change of clothes daily in

their bags.

Swimming togs are fine, but we do ask that both

boys and girls have a rash vest or t-shirt to cover

their shoulders and backs.

As always OSCAR House staff will sunscreen all

children on arrival to the programme and hats are

compulsory to ensure your children are protected

from the sun.
