From the AP of Instruction Dear WCHS Parents and Guardians, Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! I hope you all had a joyful summer and are ready to support our students through another school year. This year’s instructional focus is: Increasing Student Achievement by Enhancing Student Ownership. We believe that students will own their learning and achieve at higher levels if… 1) They see the relevancy of the curriculum to the real-world, their lives, culture, and goals 2) They have a choice in what they learn, how they learn, and how they demonstrate learning 3) They are encouraged to question themselves, one another, and the world at large 4) They understand and recognize the purpose of learning standards and objectives 5) They are forced to think, make judgments, and develop arguments 6) They are the primary person responsible for thinking, speaking, and doing in the classroom 7) They are able to be the teacher and the student We ask that you support this focus by asking your child/student: -What are you learning about in school? Why is that topic important? -What choices were you given in class? -Why do you think that? Prove your opinion. Give me evidence. -How much do you participate in class? Why? -Teach me something that you learned today! Thank you in advance for the love, care, and support that you provide. From the AP of Student Support Services

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to another exciting school year and thank you for choosing Williamsburg Charter

High School!

As you are already aware, charter schools are schools of choice and we are delighted that you and

your child have chosen WCHS for another academic school year. We are very pleased to inform you that

over the last 3 years 90% of our students returned back to WCHS which means that there are some phenom-

enal things going on in our school community. Last year I challenged our students to be the best they can

be academically, socially, and emotionally. This year my challenge remains the same:

Be on time and prepared for school every day!

Be in full uniform at all times and wear it with pride!

Study every day when they get home from school!

Don’t be afraid to ask teachers for help when they need it!

Respect each other and their community!

Participate in extra-curricular activities!

Visit at least 3 colleges or universities this year!

Believe the best in others and themselves!

I look forward to working with you again this year.

Sincerely,

Roberta Smith, Assistant Principal of Student Support

Nuestro éxito no crea complacencia y

Atentamente,

Roberta Smith, Sub-Directora de Servicios de Apoyo Estudiantil
