It has been a difficult period for teachers, students and families as we have all adjusted to new ways of learning and teaching. The transition has not been an easy one at times for families or teachers, but where we have been successful, is because parents and carers are partners in achieving learning outcomes. So, I wanted to take this opportunity on behalf of the school and our teaching staff, to offer my thanks for the support you have provided during this transition. I have been inspired by the commitment and energy shown by parents and teachers in educating our students, and this is reflected in the innovative and creative ways we have come together to ensure continuity of education. There have been highlights and successes in our remote learning: Mr Joe Keane has set up our entire online learning platform to ensure children, teachers and parents have access to information, learning and technical help when needed. All staff have continued to deliver high standard of student learning by devising online and exploring new ways to deliver learning content with technology. Students have demonstrated outstanding learning dispositions of problem solving, resilience and persistence, while learning to learn in a totally different environment. Parents have been very supportive, flexible with their own work commitments and encouraging of their children and the school. Examples like this show how our school community is supporting each other through this period. I believe that meeting this challenge together has strengthened the partnership between St Paul’s and our community, which will sustain us through the learning and teaching of the weeks and months to come. That partnership is, and will continue to be, the foundation of a high-quality Catholic education. St Paul’s staff are here for you and, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us as we are available to help during this time. FOLLOW US! On Tuesday, we heard the news that was music to our ears - the return of our students to school. The return dates are: Year Prep - 2 students is Tuesday 26 May. Year 3-6 will remain learning from home online during this time. Monday 25th May is a Pupil Free Day for all students there will be no online learning at home and no school on this day. Year 3-6 students will return to school 2 weeks later on Tuesday 9 June As you can appreciate the return to school will mean some changes to the way we operate. We are working to ensure the safety of all members of our school community while ensuring we are still a welcoming community. We hope to have these changes to you next week.

Thankyou to you and the staff at st Paul’s during this difficult and unusual situation. The communication has been great, and the teachers hard work is appreciated.

As this lockdown is finally coming to an end, l would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the amazing job they are doing during this trying time. I know that all the teachers have been doing an amazing job. I would like to extend my appreciation to Tina, Sophie, Joe, Miss McCarthy and Mr B, I would also like to thank Edward Faraci, Good luck for the rest of the term, may God bless you all and hope to see you soon.

Hi Maria, Hope you are keeping well. Just wanted to also say that I am really happy with how the school has handled the situation and home school learning. Thanks for your continued hard work and support Many thanksDear teachers

I just wanted to give you a big thank you for all your efforts to make online learning such a great experience for my child, and all the kids. My child (and me too) have been enjoying the content, online meetings, experiments and the online engagement that you are providing for the kids. I'm really happy with your work and even though it’s not easy to do other things, I'm fortunate enough to spend time with My child. Keep being so good! and we will see you eventually ...Have a great weekend

Subject: Re: Live Learning Video MeetingsLove this, thank you for your continued initiatives

Hope you are doing well. I would like to thank both of you for regular check-ins with my child’s learning and organising school learning for him yesterday. We found it was quite productive for him & us as well and it seems he had a good time, was able to complete his day's learning and also quite happy to meet some of his class mate and a good feeling of going to school. It would be good, if this can be organise weekly, happy to discuss.I have received the sight words booklet and will try to get him to do.

Really appreciate the efforts of the school …..setting up daily meetings with my child. We have been working well , and adjusting the work to help my child complete the work.

You are all doing an amazing job considering 2 months ago you were in a classroom, and you probably have limited Software Use experience.

The learning packs are amazing, you must have put some hours into that - thank you very much. I have hidden it otherwise the skittles might not make it to the specified lesson

I think what Joe in particular has done with google classroom has been amazing,

and he should be extremely proud of his work.

Thank you messages to teachers...

Over the past week, the students in Year 1/2 have been thinking of special ways they can show their love for their Mums on Mother’s Day. Students have written cards for their Mum, created portraits of their

Mum and reflected on what makes their Mum special. We hope that all the St Paul’s Mums had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Wow, hasn’t this been an experience?!

It’s been great to see so many children and families getting out and exercising every day. Exercise and regular breaks for physical activity is especially important now as we’re all spending a whole lot more time in front of a screen of some sort. With this “Stay at Home” initiative it’s so easy to go from a few hours on your computer, to then move to the TV for a few hours, to playing on a gaming console for a few more hours without any real break from a screen or increase in heart rate. So with that realisation, we all need to remember to take regular breaks and to physically move around and get hot, get sweaty and get puffed out, every day.

I’ve received a lot of interest and comments about my famous skateboard wall.

My tiny shed has become my gym for online lessons.

Hours of sitting in front of a screen is not good for your posture. Here I’m teaching everyone about the importance of good posture and stretching.

Sebastian M practising his stretching at school.

Even my dog Rubik has made an appearance in my lessons. Some of our senior students getting their heart rates up at

school.

Hello to our wonderful readers at St Paul’s!

As mentioned last week, I have further news regarding The Premiers’ Reading Challenge:

All students are invited to join the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge for 2020! Whilst we have all been at home, it is a perfect time to pick up a book and be transported to another world! Thus the theme for this year PRC ‘Reading Everybody, Everyday!

Right now, all students need to do is keep a written log of the books they have been reading since January this year. You can include any books you have read at home or in your class with your teacher throughout the year.

A Challenge checklist will be sent home with each year level’s learning journals.

Next week, students will receive their own username and password which will enable them (or their parents) to log into the website and record their reading online.

Some Useful Challenge Information!

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to

Year 10 in recognition of the importance of

reading for literacy development.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

A new interactive website is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features. I know the students will enjoy using it. This includes:

● access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)

● a modern user-friendly interface

● rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved

● the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists or for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

If there are any queries about the Premiers’ Reading Challenge, please contact me via email ([email protected]).

LOOK! WHO GOT CAUGHT READING!

Billie & Charlie were not only caught reading but have been busy discovering new interests in their reading choices during this time. Their latest discoveries include the Hot Dog series and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

Have you been snapped reading yet? We would LOVE to see pics of our students reading - keep those photos coming in!

Please email your reading photos at home to the library!

Happy Reading & Take Care,Ms Angela
