VOL 201537 12th November 2015 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Carers Fundraising With the year 6 students going to Canberra next year, it has been suggested that there could be some fundraising activities to help ease the financial burden of the trip. I have worked in schools where fundraising has been very beneficial in reducing costs. If you would like to be involved in, or have any ideas about fundraising for this trip, can you please call the school and speak with Sadet in the office. From there, we can look to see if there are ways we can move forward together with fundraising for Canberra 2016. Reminder Just letting people know that the police and council officers will be out and about in the community around here. They will be specifically looking at traffic infringement including speeding and illegal parking around schools. I have been notified that this will be happening around schools in the Springfield area. Cards at school We are seeing an increase in students bringing Pokemon and other similar style cards to school. Students are not allowed to do this and I ask that you encourage your children to keep these cards at home. The reason these cards are banned at school is because trouble always happens around the ownership of the cards. Students will frequently get into arguments over the games and the matter of who owns what cards at the end of the day becomes very confused. There are students who will have different interpretations of the rules. This will often lead to students being upset if they lose cards, particularly if they are valuable cards. Kind Regards Greg Horrigan Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Fundraising With the year 6 students going to Canberra next year, it has been suggested that there could be some fundraising activities to help ease the financial burden of the trip. I have been notified that this will be happening

around schools in the Springfield area. Cards at school We are seeing an increase in students bringing Pokemon and other similar style cards to school. Students are not allowed to do this and I ask that you encourage your children to keep these cards at home. DEFENCE NEWS

Hello Defence Families,

Last night I had the privilege of attending the launch of the, “Book of Appreciation” at the Goonda Services Club. This was

initiated by DCO Amberley and was developed to say thanks to the members of RAAF base Amberley, the Australian Defence

Force and our allied nations serving on deployment. They hope it will be an enduring message of thanks, love and support from

the Amberley Defence Community to those whose constant vigil and sacrifices maintain our way of life.

The books contain drawings, messages, poems and pictures gathered from schools, business, families, defence community

groups, the Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, as well as our Governor General, Sir Peter Cosgrove. It demonstrates the gratitude

that is felt for the parents, husbands, wives and friends through whose service our country’s freedom and safety is being

defended.

There are 5 books in total and will be flown over by 33 Squadron in time for Christmas. It is a wonderful project and one that I

hope will continue as long as we have members serving overseas.

Best Wishes

Kim Roberts

CHAPPY NEWS

The Grand Tour

On Wednesday the 4th of November, one hundred men and boys from Springfield Lakes State School embarked upon the

fabled Grand Tour of Europe. These adventurers ventured off on a quest to be this year's Grand Tourist. They deciphered

obscure clues to reveal their destinations, and endured a great physical challenge. Everyone involved did our school proud by

modelling our school’s expectations of being Cooperative, Peaceful and Respectful.

A special thanks to the Springfield Lakes Bakery, Mr Horrigan, Miss Hamilton, Ms Sandwith, and Ms Coates for lending a

helping hand to ensure the night was a great success.

Congratulations to the following students who received prizes.

This year, Springfield Lakes State School will be partnering with Hillsong Church by participating in the Stuff the Bus Christmas

Appeal.

The appeal aims to provide food and gifts for families in need over the Christmas Holidays and beyond. Families are invited to

give an item of non-perishable foodstuffs, or a brand new gift for a child, which will be collected and placed into hampers

and distributed to families in need.

Page 12: MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL · The books contain drawings, messages, poems and pictures gathered from schools, business, families, defence community ... 4B Aaron B Anita A 4C Afia

Our aim in partnering with Hillsong Church in this initiative is to foster a greater sense of community, whilst inspiring children

and families in our community to openly give and care for those less fortunate than themselves. It is our aim that most families

within our school community would provide something that will bring some hope to another family over the holiday season.

The Chaplaincy Service will provide an opportunity for families at Springfield Lakes State School to give these items by placing

them under the empty Christmas tree in the undercover area near the tuckshop on Wednesday the 2nd of December 2015.

Over the past three years our school community has responded generously to the Christmas appeal, contributing approximately

three car loads of groceries annually.

If you are aware of any families or individuals within our region who may benefit from receiving a hamper during this holiday

period, please contact Hillsong City Care on (07) 3422 8500.

We hope that many of you will embrace this chance to offer support to our wider community.

Second Hand Uniform Donations

Our Chaplaincy Service is able to provide a second hand uniform service to the community, thanks to the generous donations of

old and used uniforms from our school community. If you have any good quality used uniform items you, can donate them to the

chaplaincy service via the school office.
