USING YOUR GIFTS TO TRANSFORM THE WORLD 2019-2020
Message from the Principal
Hello, Cardinal Families! I'd like to start by thanking you all for helping us improve our morning carpool process. Those of you who are following the rules help us to ensure that every child gets to school safely. Please DO NOT walk your child across any street to get to school. It is extremely unsafe AND it causes our regular carpool system to back up AND it's against our rules. Please don't set a bad example for your children by allowing them to walk across to get to school. Additionally, we've seen a decrease in the number of students who are tardy to class. Thank you parents who get here on time every day and encourage punctuality at home. We appreciate your support. Report cards will be sent home on Monday. There will be an information session Monday at 5:30 for any prospective families who are interested in joining Cardinal either this year or next year. There's a PTC meeting Monday night; please do attend and learn about all the ways you can get involved in our school. You will receive a volunteer hour for attending. On Wednesday, there will be picture retakes for any stu-dents who did not get their picture taken earlier this year. Finally, on Friday all students can participate in a free dress down day; they can wear their new class shirts and any uniform bottom. Let's have a great week of school!

Fall picture retakes will take place
on November 6. Regular uniforms
only; no PE clothes.
Smart Watch Policy—New
CCA policy prohibits students from bringing tech-
nology to school, including smart watches that
have communication abilities (i.e. apple watches
can be used to text if they are attached to a phone
number or wireless internet). We want to ensure
that students are engaged and focused at all times
and this type of technology prevents their ability to
do this. We will be confiscating this technology if it
is seen at school, and parents will need to pick it up
at the front office. Thank you for helping us ensure
that our students succeed in school.
Class Shirts Update—New
Class shirts were delivered to teachers this past week
and should be coming home with your student. If
you have any questions or problems with your order,
please contact [email protected].
There are NO PICKUPS after 2:30
p.m. Parents must use carpool.
Art to Remember
The last day to order Art to Remember items is Mon-
day, November 4. This is a fundraiser for the K-4 art
program. Students should be bringing home order
forms if they haven’t already. Please see the flyer at
the end of the newsletter and contact Ms. Waltz if
you have any questions. Thank you so much for your
support!
Late Carpool Fee
Effective October 28, there will be a $20 late carpool
fee if you arrive after 4 p.m. It can be paid by check
or money order made out to CCA. Please remember
to bring your carpool tag or photo ID to the aftercare
desk to sign out your child. Thank you.
Free Dress Down Days—New
The following days are FREE dress down days spon-
sored by the PTC:
Friday, Nov. 8—Class shirts with any uniform
bottom.
Wednesday, Nov. 13—Spirit wear with any uniform
bottom.
Spirit Wear Update—New
Hoodies will be delivered to students on Monday.
Other orders may be picked up at 6:30 p.m. in the
cafeteria before the PTC meeting on Monday night.
Remaining orders will be delivered to teachers. If
you have any questions regarding your order,
please contact [email protected].
The PTC has spirit wear in stock and can be or-
dered here with delivery within two weeks.

Fun/Color Run Update
The PTC chairs and school administration have decided
to postpone the Fun Run and Color Run to March 12.
We realized that parents were feeling overwhelmed
with current and upcoming donations, field trip depos-
its, signups, and events. We want to carry the momen-
tum after such a successful brainstorming session at the
PTC meeting last month and make the Fun Run and Col-
or Run even bigger than before. If you would like to
help with this and possibly lead a planning team, please
sign up here.
We recognize that some parents have already taken the
day off for November 8, so we are offering a Parent Vol-
unteer Day with additional volunteer opportunities at
school. In addition to regular opportunities such as car-
pool, cafeteria duty, and copy center, parents can assist
in tidying staff lounges, cleaning up the campus, disin-
fecting classrooms, making bulletin boards, and more.
These opportunities can be found here and visually on
the volunteer calendar here.
All previous signups were transferred to the new date
of March 12, so if that date doesn’t work for you, please
be sure to delete your spot. If you have any questions,
please email the PTC here.
Donation Drop Offs
When dropping off items to the school, donations must
be clearly labeled with this form. Forms are also availa-
ble at the front office. Every donation needs a form.
This will ensure each donated item gets to its proper
destination and families receive credit towards volun-
teer hours.
Aftercare Late Pickup Fee
The aftercare fee for pickup after 6 p.m. will be
strictly enforced beginning Monday, October
28. The $20 late pickup fee will be due at pickup
and can be paid by check or money order made
out to CCA.
Cardinal Store—Updated
The store will be open for business this week
during morning arrival hours, 7:30-8:15 a.m. in
the cafeteria. The schedule is as follows:
Monday: Fourth and Fifth Grade
Tuesday: Third Grade
Wednesday: Second Grade
Thursday: First Grade
Friday: Kindergarten
Middle schoolers can ask their homeroom teach-
er about the schedule for middle school stu-
dents.
Two parent volunteers will be needed from 7:15-
8:15 a.m. each day. Sign up here to volunteer at
the store.
Please consider donating here to help stock the
Cardinal Store!
Parents may also donate gently used small toys/
gadgets for prize boxes or the cardinal store for
house rewards.

Students in the seventh grade were honored to have Ms. Reaves visit Cardinal
this past week. Ms. Reaves was a Meteorologist in the Navy for eight years and
was stationed on an aircraft carrier. She gave a fascinating presentation on what
her job entailed, as well as her personal experiences in the Navy. She shared her
harrowing experience rescuing pirates who were stranded in the middle of a hur-
ricane! She answered many, many questions from the students and helped
teach the students what meteorology entails. Her visit coincided perfectly with the students’ current study
of the weather. Thank you, Ms. Reaves, both for your service to our country as well as for giving your time
and sharing your experiences with our students!

LANDS’ END SCHOOL
FOR COMPLETE DETAIL S AND ELIGIBILIT Y REQUIREMENTS, VISIT L ANDSEND.COM /STARBOARD
WE’RE GIVING BACK! WITH A $10,000 SCHOLARSHIP FOR UP TO 7 STUDENTS
& UP TO $5,000 FOR THEIR SCHOOLS
HERE’S WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOUR SCHOOL, STUDENTS & PARENTS:
• Up to 7 students will receive awards of $10,000.
• Exclusive Preferred Schools are eligible to win a $5,000 cash donation as well as a $500 Lands’ End Gift Card—ask your Lands’ End School representative about how to become an Exclusive Preferred School.
• Non-Exclusive Preferred Schools are eligible to win a $2,500 cash donation as well as a $500 Lands’ End Gift Card.
• A maximum of 3,000 applications will be accepted from November 1, 2019 through December 13, 2019, or earlier if maximum applications have been received. Schools must be enrolled with Lands’ End School by 11/1/2019 to be eligible.
The Lands’ End School Starboard Scholarship acknowledges and rewards students who display exceptional leadership skills. Why “Starboard”? You probably know it means the right side of a ship, but the term is actually derived from “steer board,” because early sailing vessels were steered by a paddle on the right side of the stern. The Lands‘ End Starboard Scholarship recognizes the next generation of young leaders as they steer us into the future.
We’re excited to share this scholarship opportunity with your students and their families. It’s one way for us to give back to our school partners and their communities. Winning schools can use their donation any way they like, perhaps to support educational programs and extracurricular activities or to provide scholarships for their school families.
