Welcome to the 2015-2016 season at CPAC! This year marks the beginning of a new era as we propel ourselves into several exciting projects. In the coming year CPAC will conduct a capital cam-paign to update and improve the seats in our theater, implement an investment fund to further secure this organization’s bright future, provide visual art workshops with nationally recognized instruc-tors including Betsy Dillard Stroud and continue to build our youth programs, all while maintaining a high standard of entertainment. Performers making their debut at CPAC this year include Rex Al-len Jr., HarpFusion, recording legend Stanley Jordan, world re-nowned Native American flute player R. Carlos Nakai and West-ern performers Joni Harms, Carolyn Martin and Juni Fisher. We welcome a new partnership with TAD Management in perform-ances of Piano Man and Time in a Bottle. CPAC is pleased to bring back many favorites including Dutch musician Mr. Boogie Woogie, Joe Bourne, Civic Orchestra of Tucson and Robert Shaw in his portrayal of Johnny Cash. The Santa Cruz Shoestring Play-ers will produce three plays this season including theater standard, The Curious Savage, and their first ever melodrama! The Santa Cruz Summer Winds ends its summer season at CPAC with an action packed program full of intriguing and innovative selections! This concert will feature local trumpet player, Glenn Gross, in “Variations on the Carnival of Venice” by Jean-Baptiste Arban made famous by the Eastman wind ensemble and Wynton Marsalis. The Santa Cruz Summer Winds will also perform “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez with a small dance accompaniment in addition to several new music premiers. There are many surprises in store and what better way to spend the last days of summer!

The Allen Farmer Quartet will pay tribute to Herb Ellis and Mel Torme, two of the most popular jazz and be-bop performers and recording artists of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Selections will in-clude “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Embraceable You,” “Lullaby of Birdland,” “Look For the Silver Lining” and more! Guitarist and vocalist, Allen Farmer, has performed with Mel Torme, Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson and Dick Contino among others and has appeared in performances at Knott’s Berry Farm and at the John Wayne Goodtime Theater. Drummer Mike An-drews is a veteran of the television and movie industry and has appeared numerous times on the Ed Sullivan and Mike Douglas Shows. Bassist Rick Shosie is a former member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and performed in Hawaii for much of his career. Originally from Delaware, jazz sensation and piano virtu-oso, Sly Slipetsky, has performed across the region and is in high demand as a studio and gig musician. The Hot Club of Tucson, formed in 2004, is comprised of guitar-ist Matt Mitchell, violinist Nick Coventry and bassist Evan Dain. With weekly engagements at Hotel Congress and other venues in southern Arizona, along with an upcoming performance at the national Gypsy Jazz Festival, this band has quickly become the leading force of this genre in the region. The Hot Club of Tucson plays Django Reinhardt inspired acoustic gypsy jazz, French jazz, folk, jazz manouche and music from American Tin Pan Alley. This performance will include original arrangements of “Lady is a Tramp” (L Hart, R Rodgers), “My Melancholy Baby” (E Burnett, G Norton), “Honeysuckle Rose” (F Waller), “Manoir de Mes Reves” (D Reinhardt) and much more!

What better way to kick off the season than with a reception hon-oring CPAC’s members, donors, supporters and friends? REX ALLEN JR. Wednesday, October 7th at 7:00 PM Tickets: $20 in advance - $25 at door Western music icon Rex Allen Jr. makes his CPAC debut to open the 2015-2016 season! Rex Allen Jr. was the star of Yesteryear

and The Statler Brothers Show on TNN for 8 years. With more than 50 hits like “It’s Over,” “Lonely Street” and “Two Less Lonely People,” Rex is truly a living legacy of country and west-ern music. The son of Hollywood’s last singing cowboy and a revered narrator, Rex Jr. shares his father’s greatest gift, his voice. Rex has been inducted into the Western Music Hall of Fame in addition to the Arizona Entertainers and Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2011, The state of Arizona declared Rex’s song “I Love You Arizona” the official song of the Arizona centen-nial. Rex Allen Jr. is the consummate actor, singer and enter-tainer and his audiences always leave the show knowing they have been supremely entertained.

In 1980, Dr. Herschel Kreloff be-came the orchestra’s artistic/musical director and it has grown to full symphonic instrumentation. Now in its 37th year, COT en-riches the cultural life of southern Arizona by presenting free concerts at various venues around the region.

JUNI FISHER Wednesday, October 14th at 7:00 PM Tickets: $15/$20 in advance - all tickets $20 at door Juni Fisher's name is synonymous with the kind of songwriting that "plumbs the depth of your soul." More than a singer and songwriter, Juni is a horsewoman with a message. Fisher grew up in a California farming family and became an excellent horse show “catch rider” gaining top honors at Intercollegiate and Quarter Horse shows. She trained cowhorses, worked on a cow calf operation and ran a roping arena, all while winning multiple riding awards. If there was a campfire gathering with music, Juni was there with her guitar, singing the songs of the west she'd learned from her father. In 1984 she moved to Santa Ynez, CA to work for a cutting horse trainer and soon found herself playing with a local band. Juni went on to work L.A. area clubs with a country-dance band playing western and cowboy music. She later moved to Tennessee to work as a fox hunting professional and honed her songwriting skills among Nashville's finest. Juni has won multiple awards from the Western Music Association in-cluding Entertainer of the Year, Female Performer of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

OKTOBERFEST AT CPAC Featuring the Bavarian Brass Band of Green Valley Saturday, October 17th at 5:00 PM Tickets: $25 in advance/$30 at door ($190 for a table of 8) Celebrate Oktoberfest in an outstanding outdoor setting with the 20-piece Bavarian Brass Band. The ensemble was started in 1996 by founding director, Earl Harrison, and has been entertaining audiences ever since with energetic polkas, marches, folksongs and waltzes. The band is currently directed by Lance Hoopes and features the yodeling talents of Tamara Kahrimanis. Ticket price includes brats, schnitzel with gravy, German potato salad, vegeta-ble dish, strudel and two drink tickets!

RONSTADT GENERATIONS Southwestern Folk Fusion Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 PM Tickets: $15/$20 in advance – all tickets $20 at door Representing five generations in North America, Ronstadt Gen-erations continues the family’s musical traditions with Michael J. Ronstadt (younger brother of Linda) and his sons, Michael G. and Petie. Multi-instrumentalists and solo performers in their own right, they present an exciting repertoire that preserves the traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of their heritage while offering innovative original material. New compositions place them on the cutting edge of blended genres, stretching the boundaries of folk, blues and jazz. Rich harmonies sung in Eng-lish and Spanish are accompanied by outstanding cello and gui-tars. The trio’s worldwide touring and recording credits include Linda Ronstadt, Los Lobos, Dixie Hummingbirds, David Brom-berg, Nydia Rojas, Tish Hinojosa, Muriel Anderson, and Maria-chi Vargas. In 2012, the band added three veteran musi-cians, Alex Flores, Sam Eagon and Aaron Emery, playing tenor saxophone, bass and drums respectively, adding a colorful di-mension to an already powerful presentation.

PETE SWAN QUINTET Tribute to Duke Ellington Wednesday, October 28th at 7:00 PM Tickets: $15/$20 in advance - all tickets $20 at door The Pete Swan Quintet brings together five world-class jazz mu-sicians to pay homage to the Duke. Pete Swan is a bandleader, drummer, educator, vocalist and composer. Pete has performed with Bud Shank, Bob Florence, Doug Webb, John Clayton, Kris-tin Korb and many others. Pete currently runs Big Band Express, a professional big band in the Tucson area, and has been organiz-ing local concert jam sessions and performing at local restaurants for almost two decades. Angelo Versace has been described as “a fleet-fingered keyboard dynamo.” Versace has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands) and multiple jazz festivals in New Orleans, LA, Pittsburgh, PA and Miami, FL. He has had the privilege of working with Khristian Dentley, Brice Winston, Troy Roberts, Dave Stryker, Wycliffe Gordon and Ignacio Ber-roa among others. Versace currently serves as the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Arizona. Matt Mitchell is a member of numerous local ensembles including Hot Club of Tucson. He has performed with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and the Tucson Pops multiple times and was awarded Best Gui-tarist at the 2008 Tucson Area Music Awards. Bassist Scott Black moved to Tucson after having spent time as a professional musician in New York and Chicago. He founded the Tucson Jazz Institute, a school teaching jazz to over 100 middle and high school students. It is recognized as one of the top jazz programs in the country. Max Goldschmidt is a multi-instrumentalist who is one of the rare individuals who can seamlessly perform at the highest level on virtually any instrument.

Almost, Maine is a town so far north, it’s almost in Canada. Un-der the northern lights, Almost’s residents take the audience in and out of love in the strangest ways. Directed by Amanda Urba-niak, this romantic comedy is guaranteed to bring some unex-pected magic!

This is a story of great legal minds with a vision of what our country should be, and some not so great, bogged down in the mire of the politics and prejudice of their era. The Court has certainly had its highs and lows throughout time, but it is all part of our history, part of a thought provoking tale that lawyer-historian Jack Lasseter loves to tell.

It is the largest touring harp en-semble in the world and has attained international respect for its innovative and inspiring performances. Their repertoire includes classical, jazz, new age and folk music. HarpFusion features harpists from Taiwan, Japan, Egypt, Russia, Puerto Rico, Can-ada, and across the United States. All music they perform is writ-ten or arranged by a member of the group and all members are students of Carrol McLaughlin at the University of Arizona. HarpFusion's recent international concert appearances have in-cluded Russia, Czech Republic, Japan, Indonesia, Puerto Rico, China, Korea, Switzerland, and Spain.

ARIZONA BALALAIKA ORCHESTRA

The Arizona Balalaika Orchestra began in 1980 in Tucson, AZ as a small ensemble within the University of Arizona Russian Department. The group is a spirited, non-profit community folk orchestra, playing native Slavic instruments and wearing color-ful costumes. It has toured throughout Arizona and Mexico. At major performances, the Orchestra collaborates with guest dance troupes, vocalists, and guest instrumental soloists from as far away as Moscow and Kiev. Members of the orchestra also form small ensembles for various events. The Arizona Bala-laika Orchestra is a member of the Balalaika and Domra Asso-ciation of America, which holds annual conventions on two continents (Tucson hosted the convention in 1989 and 2004).

It is also the story of some of the famous Sher-iffs and outlaws of the time, told as only Jack can tell it.

Tucson’s 12-piece powerhouse soul sensations, The Socials, return to CPAC to deliver a brand new soul revue with some help from ole’ St. Nick. A Soulful Christmas will feature the 12-piece band performing an assortment of popular holiday tunes arranged by soul giants such as James Brown, Jackson 5, Aaron Neville, Ella Fitzgerald, Earth Wind and Fire, Otis Redding and more. This wall of sound features a horn section (Kevin Shumaker, Salvador Lopez and Rick Peron), pianist Richard Katz, a thunderous rhythm section (Aaron Emery on Drums, Sam Eagon on Bass and percussionist Eric Hines) and guitarist Mike Blommer (Bad News Blues Band). Vocalists Rebecca Carlson (Jive Bombers/Jane Crowe Band), Charlie Hall (The Gaslight Theatre/Blues Brothers Tribute), Genevieve Gaus (Genevieve & The LPs) and Alex Flores (Bad News Blues Band/Ronstadt Generations) all share duties in recreating those famous harmonies identified with this timeless era. The Socials are proud to carry the tradition of Soul forward, having been heavily influenced and enriched by the great musicians who forged the genre all those years ago.

ARTHUR MIGLIAZZA TRIO Thursday, December 17th at 7:00 PM Tickets: $20/$25 in advance - all tickets $25 at door Award winning Blues and Boogie Woogie pianist Arthur Migli-azza began playing the piano professionally at the age of 13. It was through his love of Blues music and his dedication to the piano that he came under the wing of such mentors/teachers as Henry Butler and Ann Rabson. Arthur has been inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame and was a finalist at the 2010 and 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. During his more than 20 years of performing he has been privi-leged to play on some of the world’s greatest stages including Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow as part of the sold out Kings of Boogie Tour, the Glen Gould Studio in Toronto and on National Public Radio in the US. Arthur resides in Seattle, Washington while not touring. In 2014 he received the Best of the Blues Award for Best Key-boardist in Washington State and his latest album, Laying It

Down, resided at #1 on the Roots Music Report charts for Wash-ington State for the summer of 2014 and reached #20 on the na-tional chart. Laying It Down also appeared on the Grammy Entry List for the 2015 Grammy award nominations. Performing with Arthur are two of his favorite collaborators, Doug Davis on drums and Larry Lee Lerma on bass.

SONORAN DOGS Bluegrass & Americana Friday, January 8th at 7:00 PM Tickets: $20/$25 in advance - all tickets $25 at door Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music initially in-spired from Irish, Scottish, English and Welsh traditional songs and instrumentals by the 18th century Appalachian Settlers. Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, incorporated other cultural influences while refining the sounds into a truly American musi-cal form. Formed in 2011, The Sonoran Dogs have exploded upon the Arizona bluegrass scene having recently performed at bluegrass festivals in Sedona, Wickenburg, Prescott, Tucson and Tubac. They are 2013 Rockygrass band contest finalists. The group is comprised of seasoned veterans Peter McLaughlin (1988 National Flatpicking Guitar Champion), Tyler James (2008 Rockygrass Banjo Champion), Mark Miracle on mandolin and vocals (Telluride band contest winner), and Brian Davies (TAMMIES award winning bassist). This performance will fea-ture historical references and anecdotes exploring this fascinating musical form. The Sonoran Dogs perform a collection of tradi-tional bluegrass vocal and instrumental standards, new-grass, Americana, improvisation and original compositions.

Folk Music Legends, the world-famous group, The New Christy Minstrels®, is still under the direction of Randy Sparks, and the group is now better than they were in their hey-day. They won a Grammy for their very first album and have Gold Records galore. Now officially seven members strong, they are a mix of old and new and one of the best collection of performers ever to have been billed as The New Christy Minstrels®. Each performer adds a diverse and unique talent to the pool. "We're still alive, we're still creative, and still eager to please, so we make a deal with the audience: We'll do all the old songs you came to hear, if you'll allow just a couple of newer ones," says the group's leader Randy Sparks. With a killing almost every day, no lawman dared step foot in this den of gamblers, robbers and thieves. This was “the end of the track,” a community of tents, tar paper shacks and killers. Both of these films were produced by Arizona filmmaker Phil Wenstrand. His film, Ghost

Mimi Blais returns with a concert featuring the music of female ragtime composers. Why a concert for women composers? Because they deserve equal recognition with the more promi-nent male composers, and they often get buried in that list. It was the women who more often took piano lessons, played ragtime in the home, performed in stores and often understood better than many male composers the emotional aspects of the music. Most composed anywhere from their late teens through their late twenties or early thirties when many music-oriented careers were ended by marriage. Even while they were compos-ing they often faced obstacles in the male-dominated publishing world. It is also telling that while both black and white males of all classes contributed to the pool of piano rags with some bal-ance, the vast majority of female composers were white and from middle-class areas. Originally from Kiev, Ukraine, Alexander Tentser is an unusu-ally gifted and versatile musician. In his capacity as a concert pianist, collaborator and conductor, he has performed in venues all across the globe including almost all the republics of the for-mer Soviet Union. He studied music at the Russian Music Acad-emy and at Gnessin Music College, the oldest music college in Russia. Alexander Tentser holds a doctorate degree in piano from the University of Arizona and has performed multiple times as a soloist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Siberian Phil-harmonic Violin Ensemble and the National Convention Russian Folk Orchestra. He has collaborated with multiple chamber en-sembles and soloists including New York Philharmonic violinist, Anna Rabinova. Dr. Tentser currently conducts the Pima Com-munity College Orchestra and teaches courses on popular music. Michael Chaffin (tenor) and Kimberly Chaffin (soprano) both hold Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona and Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. After moving to East Texas, Beau worked at a Radio Station during the day and played his music at night in some of Texas' most famous nightclubs. During that time he was hired to open for many Nashville coun-try stars including T.G. Shepard, Moe Bandy, Jerry Reed, Charlie Rich, Faron Young and Joe Stampley. This set the stage for a tour with David Houston’s band including stops at the Famed Grand Ole' Opry. In 1976 Beau’s first album hit radio stations worldwide. “There's No More Gold,” Beau's first release, was the hit of the week for Billboard Magazine and went to #85 on the Country Charts. Through his connections in the music industry, Beau was instrumental in pushing the song “Red Wine” by Joe Stampley to Epic Records, which went to #5 on the charts. Beau went on to work the famed Ozark Jubilee in Branson, MO, playing 200 dates a year. He then moved to Tucson, Arizona where his Clear Country Band was formed with Rick Skinner, Harry Bolin and Mickey Gee. The band was named Arizona's #1 Country Dance and Show Band seven times. Beau has come full circle and now lives in Arkansas where he started. He still re-cords in Nashville regularly. His many songs have placed high on the worldwide charts and Billboard picked “Let's fall in Love for the Weekend” as hit of the week in 1981. “God's Amazing Grace” is routinely played on many radio stations on July 4th and September 11th. Beau recorded 16 releases with Stardust Records in Nashville and is a member of the Rock-a-Billy Hall of Fame.

The Tucson Guitar Society Orchestra (TGSO) and conductor Jose Luis Puerta present an exciting repertoire of guitar litera-ture in an orchestral setting. The Tucson Guitar Society formed in 1987 as a non-profit, community-based organization. The society sponsors workshops and classes throughout the year and hosts an artist series featuring touring guitar virtuosos. The mission of the Tucson Guitar Society is to promote the aware-ness, understanding, and appreciation of the guitar and similar stringed instruments to people of all cultures, ages, abilities and economic means in Tucson and surrounding areas. The Tucson Guitar Society Orchestra was founded in 2004 with Gabriel Navia as the first conductor and artistic director. The orchestra performs annual concerts in venues such as Holsclaw Hall at The University of Arizona and Grace St. Paul’s Episco-pal Church in addition to playing other engagements such as the Guitar Foundation of America regional conference and the Arizona Ensemble Festival in Glendale. In 2015, the TGSO presented the world premiere of its newly commissioned work, “Last Man Standing,” by Brad Richter. Current conductor José Luis Puerta began his guitar studies in Escuela Libre de Música de San Juan, Puerto Rico and continued at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. He has studied with Ivan Rijos, Pepe Romero, Nicolas Goluses, Manuel Barrue-cos, and David Russell. José Luis earned his Master's degree at The University of Arizona with Professor Thomas Patterson and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the same institution. In 2010, he was a finalist at the Concurso Nacional de Guitarra in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He has performed in Canada, Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States.
