As we move into 2020, our focus is on our mem-bership and our businesses! We will be conducting our Business Re-
tention & Expansion Local Business Survey. Informa-tion gained from this survey will be used to identify industry needs, concerns, and problems. This is very important data for our community to improve our business climate. We will also be offering resources for our local businesses including workshops, panels, and information online for our busy business owners. Stay tuned for Membership Madness in March as we cel-ebrate our 600 members! To celebrate our entrepreneurs, we will be hosting the first Lemonade Day in Grants Pass! Lemonade Day is a community-wide educational pro-gram that provides youth with the opportunity to learn how to start, own and operate their first business…a lemonade stand. Our Young Professional Network will be offering professional development opportunities for our Young Professionals while continuing the monthly luncheons and quarterly socials. We are excited for all 2020 has in store for our members and community!

From the desk of the President & CEO
Greetings Members ~ Hello 2020! Looking back, 2019 was a great year for the Grants Pass & Jose-phine County Chamber of Commerce. In December, our Board of Directors had a strategic planning session to prepare for the future. For one activity, we listed everything the Chamber accomplished in 2019. It was a long list. We had a lot to celebrate! You will find the complete list in this newsletter. This is just the beginning as we are looking forward to accomplishing more in 2020. Besides our programs and functions, we also do a lot of behind the scenes work that people never see. We work directly with our business owners, community, city, county, and economic development partners to push Grants Pass & Jose-phine County to the next level. We are the Catalyst for business growth, the Convener of leaders and influencers, and the Champion for a stron-ger community. We advocate for our businesses. When there is a problem or a challenge that arises, we connect our businesses with the right people to get the job accomplished. We help you find the solution. We have a seat at those important meetings such as last year we sat on Southern Oregon Economic Development, Inc. (SOREDI) Board, the Collaborative Economic Development Committee, Tourism Advi-sory Committee, Youth Program boards (Youth Pathway Partnership Board, Exchange for Change, JCCN), Rotary, and Small Business Devel-opment Center Advisory, just to name a few. We are also one of the first faces people see when they visit or relocate to our community. We send out over 1,000 relocation/visitor packets, welcome 6,000+ visitors a year to our community, take over 4,000 phone calls with requests, and have over 1.5 million people visit our website annually. We also have the best community calendar in Jose-phine County! A big benefit to our Chamber members are our member referrals. We were there when Travel Oregon brought the Food Trail idea to Southern Oregon. We represented our amazing farmers in Josephine County. We were there when SOREDI was creating their Strategic Plan. And we will be at the table when they are implementing the goals for their Strategic Plan. We represent you and our community! If you are facing an issue and need help, reach out to us. We can be the convener to help you accomplish what you need whether it is work-ing with the county, city, or another business. We have the connections. Together we are stronger in numbers. When the Chamber shows up at the table, organizations know we not only have the credibility, but we are also representing over 600 businesses. Our board is comprised of 15 engaged individuals from a wide variety of industries, helping Grants Pass and Josephine County be a great place to live and do business. We are looking forward to continuing to be your advocate!

Community Connections ~ Charitable Giving, Outreach, Impact
The Exchange for Change (E4C) program, first held July 2019, brought together 12 Josephine
County students and 12 Portland students for 2 weeks of living and learning together – the first week at Siskiyou Field Institute in Selma and the second week based out of Port-land State University. The program was built around an “SOS” model, with goals to 1) increase students’ individual leadership skills and self-confidence (SELF), 2) increase stu-dents’ understanding and respect for diversity (OTHER), and 3) build understanding of the challenges and strengths that face rural and urban Oregon (SYSTEMS). Students identi-fied as 6 different ethnicities, all local students were low income, and immi-grant and homeless students were also involved. “Being in the E4C program means so much to me. This may sound cheesy, but it was truly a life changing experience. I came into the program on the first day quiet and in-troverted, but the last day I was talk-ing to everyone and even singing. It really helped build my character and open my personality to the world”. E4C participant.
The program was paid for by grants (Josephine County Cultural Coalition and the Carpenter Foun-dation), personal and business dona-tions, and amazing community sup-port:
• College Dreams and The PLACE (the Portland partner) pro-vided staffing and transportation costs.• Bobbi Kidder provided a workshop; Ferrin and Sue Orris, Scott Taylor, Joe Vaninetti and Michele Templer provided a paddle raft trip; Roe Motors donated local transporta-tion. • Greater GP Rotary, Rogue Gateway Rotary, Illinois Valley Ro-tary, Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber Ambassadors, Caveman Kiwanis, and the Bolder Goat Moia prepared, delivered and served meals to the students at Siskiyou Field Insti-tute.• Wednesday Rotary, GP Ki-wanis, and AAUW all sponsored a meal for students at local establish-ments.• Thomason Restaurants donat-ed a meal and Taylor’s County Store and Galice Resort served deeply dis-
counted meals. Out-n-About Tree-houses/Ziplines provided a heavily discounted zipline experience (a stu-dent favorite!) Exchange for Change is a pro-gram that uses the Grants Pass & Jose-phine County Chamber Foundation as their fiduciary organization. The E4C Steering Commit-tee is currently grant writing, fund-raising and gathering support for the 2020 summer program. Thank you to Linda Hugle (†Deceased ) for direct-ing the 2019 Four Way Louis Schultz Distinguished Service Award to the E4C program and to the Josephine County Cultural Coalition and the Rotary Porchfest program for select-ing E4C as a grant recipient. If you would like to make a donation to Ex-change for Change 2020 we would be so grateful for your support! If you would like to support the Exchange for Change program, please be sure to make your check payable to the Grants Pass & Jose-phine County Chamber Founda-tion, put in the memo line "E4C" and mail it to:

An all-time favorite Christmas song ends, “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.”
No one dreams of being homeless during Christmas. This is especially true for children who often leave behind
their clothes and toys when becoming homeless.
During December, the members of the Grants Pass Fire Department came and handed out gifts to the kids.
A senior citizens group convinced a very busy Santa to come by and say hello to everyone. The Moran family
brought everyone stockings with gifts in them.
On the Friday before Christmas, the mission received a van full of toys for the kids in the mission from
Toys for Tots. There were gifts for every age and enough for every child to receive something wonderful
on Christmas morning.
“This is such a precious time of year. Whatever the cir-cumstances a family comes in under, we know it is never the fault of the children. I am pleased that we were able to coordinate with Linda Bradley and Toys for Tots and
spread the generosity of our community to those truly in need.” said Amy Lovejoy, Women’s Coordinator at
the Gospel Rescue Mission.
On Christmas Day, the Mission opened its doors to 150 homeless, low income, alone, elderly and volunteers for a
full and hearty Christmas meal. A blessed time was had by all.
Thanks to our community’s support, the Grants Pass
Gospel Rescue Mission provided a home for many men, women and children this Christmas.

Volunteers in the Community
To Our Community, Tis was a blessed Christmas Season indeed! It was a privilege to serve the folks in our community with Thanksgiving and Christmas Food assistance, toys through our Christmas Angel Tree Program, and the funds raised through the Red Kettle Campaign, which will fund our initiatives all year long. To all the businesses, families and individuals that gave and volunteered, everyone who shared so that others may be loved and cared for, we say thank you! To everyone who donated to help The Salvation Amy’s mission to serve Josephine County, we say thank you! Because of you, food assistance was provided to those in need!
Because of you, families and children received toys under their Christmas tree! Because of you, folks were served, and the needs of others were met. Because of you, a difference was made in the lives of many families this Christmas Season!
And, because of your giving, we can continue to serve Josephine County and meet the practical needs of those who come to us for assistance! I am reminded in the words of Evangeline Booth, “There is no reward equal to that of doing the most good to the most people in the most need” To all of our community, we thank God for your generosity and your willing heart to give when it was needed most. May God bless you! Sincerely, Lts. Joseph & Heather McBride, Corps Officers

2020 Fundraising Program for Shoes for Kids has started and our goal this year is to raise over $10,000 to reach at least 300 kids in Josephine County. Five [5] years ago, the Fruitdale Grange started their community out-reach to give shoes for kids going back to school. The program has given “gift cer-tificates” to over 1,000 local children with fundraising aimed at “Back to School”. The grange quickly learned that kids need shoes all year long. For 2020 an additional project for fundraising is an annual sponsorship opportunity that business and individu-als to make an annual commitment of $105 per year. It’s called the “105 Club” which allows planning for three children per sponsorship. The goal this year is 100 members. This will give the program certificates (each are $35.00) for 300 chil-dren.
During the year there will also be annual fundraisers like Bunco tour-naments several times a year and the annual Sock Hop Dance. The Grange is working with local Agencies in Jose-phine County for an extended plan for a year-round program -- The Need is There. We are asking for your help. Would you be interested in committing to an annual sponsorship of $105.00 for 1, 2 or 3 years or more? You will be in-voiced each November. In thanks your name or business or "dedication" will be on our website for the full year and on the “105 Club” board in the Fruitdale Grange lobby.
