RiseoftheAkkadianEmpire• Intime,theAkkadiansdevelopedalongtheTigris&Euphrates.• TheylivednorthofSumer– butwerenotSumerians.Theyspokeadifferentlanguage• Thepeacebetweenthemwasbrokenin2300BCwhenSargonsoughttoextendAkkadianterritory.• Sargonwasthefirstrulertohaveapermanentarmyandlaunchedaseriesofwarsdefeatingallthecity-statesofSumer.• Sargonestablishedtheworld’sfirstempire,stretchingfromthePersianGulftotheMediterraneanSea.

FallofAkkadandResurgenceofSumer• Sargonruledfor50years,&hisempirefelltotribesfromtheeastwithin100yearsofhisdeath• Eventually,thecity-stateofURrebuiltitsstrength,conqueredMesopotamia,andSumeriansonceagainbecamethepowerfulcivilizationintheregion.
