1. INTRODUCCIÓN
La determinación de la exposición en un punto, mediante una cámara de c§_
vidad abierta al aire y calibrada en un laboratorio oficial, conduce en ülti
mo termino a una expresión del tipo:

El segundo factor de (4) se simboliza por k, y se denomina factor de correc-
ción por humedad ya que es la razón entre las lecturas de la cámara con aire
seco y con humedad relativa h, cuando se mantienen constantes la presión to-
tal y la temperatura. En general, depende de h, P y T y de forma distinta, -
según la calidad de la radiación involucrada.
El empleo de estos factores permite separar el efecto de la humedad -
del efecto conjunto de la presión y temperatura ya que se tiene:

2. VALORES EXPERIMENTALES DEL FACTOR k. PARA LA ENERGÍA DEL 6°Co •
Las estimaciones de k, mediante medidas y cálculos aproximados realiza^
dos por varios autores (1-3) para un amplio intervalo de humedades relativas,
concuerdan satisfactoriamente y se han resumido en la curva de la figura 1, -

obtenida (4) promediando los distintos valores hallados experimentalmente.
Las discrepancias entre los puntos de la curva y los valores experimentales
es inferior al 0,05%. La incertidumbre aleatoria de los datos experimenta-
les también es inferior a 0,05% (1,3) para un nivel de confianza del 99%, y
un calculo elemental de propagación de la varianza muestra que la incerti-
dumbre aleatoria de cada punto de la curva promedio es inferior a 0,04% pa-
ra ese nivel de confianza. En cuanto a incertidumbres sistemáticas, la prin_
cipal contribución procede de la incertidumbre en la estimación de la pre--3 sion parcial relativa del vapor de agua, que es inferior a +_ 0,06 x 10 , -
equivalente a +_ 2,5% de humedad relativa a 20°C y 101325 Pa (1). Su influen_
cia sobre k, varía con el grado de. humedad, a la vista de la figura 1. En -
el caso mas desfavorable, de presiones parciales relativas pequeñas, se pue_
de estimar sin embargo que la incertidumbre sistemática sobre k, por ese mo_
tivo.es inferior a 0,05%.
El Comité Consultivo para los Patrones de Medida de las Radiaciones
Ionizantes (CCEMRI) de la Oficina Internacional de Pesas y Medidas (BIPM) -
recomienda (4) el empleo de esa curva para determinar k, en cámaras de cava
dad cuyas paredes no sean afectadas por la humedad y en la energía del Co.
En consecuencia establece que, 'para unas condiciones de humedad relativa -
comprendidas entre el 20% y el 60% a 20 grados centígrados, se puede consi-
derar que el valor del factor de corrección k, es aproximadamente constante,
e igual a 0,997 +. 0,001". En otras condiciones de medida, o si se desea una
exactitud mayor, hay que recurrir a la figura 1 para poder determinar el va_
lor de k, .
PROCEDIMIENTO DE ESTIMACIÓN DEL FACTOR *h
La curva experimental de la figura 1 expresa el valor de 1/k, en fun-
ci6n de la presión parcial relativa del vapor de agua contenido en el aire -
ambiente en el que se realiza la medida. La determinación de k, a partir de
esa curva exige conocer no solo las condiciones ambientales de presión P, -
temperatura T (o temperatura centígrada t) y humedad relativa h, sino también
la presión de vapor del agua, P (t), que corresponde a la temperatura t. En -
efecto, con estos datos, la presión parcial relativa del vapor de agua F n H2U

y considerando este valor como abscisa en la curva de la figura 1, es inmedia_
to estimar el valor de 1/k,.
Por tanto, el procedimiento de estimación del valor de k. para unas con_
diciones climáticas cualesquiera requiere conocer además de la curva de la fi-
gura 1, otra curva de datos experimentales, la que expresa la presión de vapor
del agua en función de la temperatura. Ademas, sobre esta curva hay que reali-
zar una primera interpolación para estimar la presión P (t) que corresponde a
la temperatura t de medida. A continuación se debe calcular el valor P de -
la presión parcial relativa del vapor de agua mediante la expresión (6) y con
este valor, realizar una segunda interpolación, esta vez sobre la curva de la
figura 1.
ORGANIZACIÓN DE LAS TABLAS DE VALORES DEL FACTOR 4 Desde un punto de vista practico, resulta aconsejable disponer de los
valores de k, correspondientes a unas condiciones ambientales de presión to-
tal, temperatura y humedad relativa comprendidas dentro de ciertos límites -
que incluyan las situaciones de medida mas frecuentes. Con esta perspectiva,
y con la intención de incluir laboratorios situados en alturas de hasta 3000m
aproximadamente, el intervalo de interés se ha establecido entre 700 y 1040 -
milibares para las presiones, entre 15°C y 30°C para las temperaturas y entre
0% y 90% para las humedades relativas. De esta manera se abarca una amplia ga_
ma de condiciones de medida, que pueden reflejar el comportamiento de instalâ
clones con ubicaciones muy diferentes o de las variaciones climáticas a largo
plazo en una instalación concreta.
En el presente trabajo se han elaborado las tablas del factor k, para c£ 60
maras de cavidad y energía del Co, en la gama descrita de condiciones ambien_
tales. El intervalo de muestreo aplicado dentro de los límites de cada variable,
presión, temperatura, humedad, se ha optimizado de manera que en lo posible, no
queden reflejadas en la tabulación, variaciones de k. menores de 0,01 %, clara-

mente sin significado frente a las incertidumbres de las medidas experimenta,
les reseñadas en la sección 2. Los intervalos utilizados son 20 milibares pa_
ra las presiones,o,• 5°C para las temperaturas y 0,5% para las humedades relata
vas.
El método aplicado es el expuesto en la sección 3, habiendo partido -
de las presiones de vapor del agua de la tabla 1 (5) y de los valores de k,
que aparecen en la tabla 2, deducida de la figura 1. Las dos interpolaciones
requeridas se han realizado con un algoritmo numérico del tipo de Aitken (6)
con tres puntos.
Los resultados aparecen en la sección 5 en forma de tablas de doble -
entrada, presión-temperatura, para cada valor de la humedad relativa. Hay que
advertir que los cálculos se han restringido a la región comprobada experimen_
talmente que corresponde a presiones parciales relativas inferiores a 2,5%. -
Un grupo de seis asteriscos en lugar de un valor numérico en la tabla represen
ta un valor de k, no calculado ya que su determinación exigiría una extrapola_
ción de los datos experimentales disponibles.
