PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Meet the Teacher
Next week it will be a great opportunity to get information from your child's
teacher about their class routines and also hear about some of the programs
that the stage classes will be involved in, such as excursions or special
programs. This is a time for some general questions but if you have a specific
concern, please make a separate time to meet with the teacher.
Swimming Carnival
We are all looking forward to holding the swimming carnival next week at
Guilford pool - weather permitting. As our local pool is mostly a grassed area
and there is no covered area, we are very dependent on the grounds being dry
for about 250 students to have a great day of swimming races and grass
novelty events.
Playgroup
Last week on Wednesday and Thursday morning, it was wonderful to see lots of
'future students' playing together in our playgroup sessions. Mrs Lennon has a
waiting list for anyone who missed out on signing up in Week 2, as we may be
holding another session on Tuesday morning if there is enough interest. For
more details, please contact Mrs Lennon via the office.
Community Connect
Last Friday at our first meeting for the year, our parents were able to meet Gary
Cook aka "Mr Cookie", the youth worker who will be at MPS each Monday and
Tuesday to support our students. He has already visited most of our classes
and a group of students have him booked in for volleyball at lunchtime! If you
see him in the playground, please say 'hello'.
Parent concerns
Thank you to those parents who have come to see me this year, either in
person or made contact with the office for an appointment to resolve
student issues. In each of these situations, teachers/executive have spoken
with the students involved and been able to help them make positive social
choices. This enables our students to learn to be responsible for their own
actions and develop problem solving skills for themselves. I understand, as a
parent that it can be upsetting to know that your child has had a problem at
school but if the problem occurs at school - then the school is responsible to
follow it up. Parents are reminded that they are not allowed to directly approach
anyone else's child.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEYS
In Term 1 2020, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with
valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different
ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me
survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The
Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. To ensure confidentiality, participating students will receive
a unique username and password. An information note will be sent home to years 4-6 students in the coming week
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS/VISITORS
A code of conduct for parents and visitors ensures that everyone who visits the school site is able to do so in a safe
and harmonious manner and to ensure that students, staff, parents and other visitors are not subjected to aggressive,
hostile or violent behaviours.
Parents and visitors are expected to:
Treat all persons associated with the school with respect and courtesy,
Ensure their child/children are punctual to class,
Make appointments in advance when expecting to see staff during teaching times,
Allow staff to supervise, investigate and manage students (parents are not to challenge other students or
attempt to resolve issues),
Entry on school grounds may be imposed to people who do not in a safe and harmonious manner.
Any person contravening this Code of Conduct is advised that the provisions of the Inclosed Lands Protection
Act (1901) and its Amendments may be followed. This allows schools to restrict access to the school or to deny
entry to the school.
Your co-operation is sought in maintaining a safe and happy school.

SPORT REPORT
PSSA TRIALS
PSSA trials have had to be postponed for all local schools because of the weather. The competition rounds will now
commence on March 6 continuing until March 27 (depending on ground availability). We will hold our trials on Feb 21
and Feb 28. All arrangements remain the same for Softball, T-Ball and Cricket.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Miss Ngyuen and Mrs Isaac have done an amazing job organising this years’ swimming carnival. Unfortunately it had
to be postponed on Friday, because of the state of the grounds at Guildford Pool. The new date for the carnival is
Thursday 27 Feb. Again, all arrangements remain the same. The Merrylands/Parramatta Zone Carnival will be held
on Tuesday 3 March at Merrylands Aquatic Centre. Any swimming carnival lunch orders need to be in by
Wednesday 26 Feb in the morning. No noodles will be available on this day.
ZONE BASKETBALL
Zone Basketball trials will be held this Thursday at Hilltop PS. Any 5/6 student who has participated in games and is
competent in their knowledge of skills and rules is welcome to attend. Permission notes are available from Mr
Douglas.
WOMEN’S T20 CRICKET
The Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup commences this week. We have been invited to host an unveiling of the World
Cup trophy. Cricket officials will display the trophy to our Stage 3 (5/6 students) on Wednesday 19 Feb 11:00-
11:30am in the hall. They will also address the students and answer any questions they may have. Any
interested parents are also welcome to attend.
SPORT CONVENORS
Miss Kalamvokis and Miss Salameh have been selected to be Merrylands Zone Sport Convenors and therefore to be
the organisers of PSSA in 2020. They will organise draws and collate scores for Summer and Winter PSSA
competitions. Congratulations.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Included in the last page of the newsletter is information about an after school cricket program which will run on the
school playground later this year. There is an “expression of interest” component in this notification. We are also
planning similar programs (after school) for AFL and Rugby League in different terms. Stay tuned.
