They designed the rules of “Movember” (which are still in place today) and agreed to charge ten dollars to grow a “Mo.” The first Movember logo was designed and an email was sent to their circle of friends titled “Are you man enough to be my man?”

They found 30 other gentlemen willing to take up the challenge.

MOVEMBER

M ost of you know that we lost our beautiful black lab, Gracie, who died suddenly one

night earlier this year. And, those of you who have pets also know that when you’re used to having a furry friend in your house, it usually doesn’t take too long to want to fill that void. With Sandye and me, it took about three weeks.

And, again, we chose to go the “Rescue” path and contacted “I-Wag” in Villa Rica, Georgia. We went out there and had an opportunity to “interview” several dogs. We probably looked seriously at four dogs, but Sandye fell in love with this precious 2-year old puppy. The shelter had named her “Mystery” because no one knew her back story.

She was found walking around Douglasville . . . with a collar on, but no license. Now, not only is her back story a mystery, but we’re not completely certain what breed she is - but we think she is part Golden Retriever, Yellow Lab and Rhodesian Ridgeback.

We adopted her in April, but we weren’t able to actually bring her home immediately. The

amazing trainers at I-Wag had to finish their work with her to prepare her for the change from living in the country to living in a neighborhood. They also had to work with us so that we could learn all the proper commands that she responds to.

We changed her name to “Missy” and welcomed her into our home on May 1st.

Now, some of you have met her . . . . Sandye lets me take her to work with me once in a while, and she has settled in nicely and is a true member of our family!

She is fascinated by the squirrels and the chipmunks we see on our walks, loves to chase the tennis ball in our dog park and sleeps right between us every night in the bed! She especially loves her squeaky squirrel toys and having her belly scratched!

Having a pet is truly a blessing for us and we are grateful every day that we have this new fur-baby to love and to spoil. We know that somehow our beloved Gracie had a hand in leading us to Missy.

And, we hope all of you can meet Missy one day. So, you never know! The next time you come in the office, you might just get a chance to see for yourself how irresistible she is!

dollars (equivalent to about $42,000 in the US), which was the largest single donation the PCFA had ever received.

In 2005 the campaign found it’s way to Spain, the first non-Australian country to join the cause, and a new campaign was created with the appropriate slogan “Give Prostate Cancer a Kick in the Arse.”

That year, 9,315 Mo Bros raised 1.2 million Australian dollars for prostate cancer research and care.

Fast forward to 2017.

The Movember Foundation has grown to over 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, has funded over 1,200 men’s health projects and has raised more than $800 million since 2003! They are now ranked in the top-50 of all non-governmental charitable organizations around the world.

Current participating countries include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the USA.

So, I decided to do my part and, as you can see, I have grown this hideous mustache (my wife says it looks like I should have a white van and a Restraining Order!), but I also know that it is for a very good cause!

Now, when you get to November and you see someone’s feeble attempt at sprouting facial hair, understand that maybe they’re just doing their part to raise awareness for these very important men’s health issues.

And, if you’d like to make a donation, please do so at: https://us.movember.com
