105BSPECIAL BY-LAWS

1. Unshod Horses, Galloways and Ponies will be allowed to compete in all classes without penalty.

2. The Committee reserves the right to substitute a Judge where it is deemed necessary. If a Judge shall consider that any exhibit does not possess sufficient merit to deserve a prize, no prize shall be awarded.

4. An intermediate is a horse that has never won a hack class at a Royal Show.

5. Competitors and their attendants holding horses and officials of the Show only, will be allowed to enter the ring enclosure.

6. All exhibits not ready to be judged at time arranged will be disqualified, even though the event, from any cause, is not held in the order shown in the official Timetable.

7. Every endeavour will be made to avoid judging of two classes concurrently, in which one exhibitor may be interested. The Association, however, cannot accept any responsibility if the judging time happens to conflict with one or more classes or events.

8. DISTRICT Classes are restricted to horses owned and stabled by persons who live within the boundaries of the Merriwa District as defined by the Map on the inside back cover of the Schedule, or who belong to the Merriwa Pony Club. 14. Any exhibitors intending to bring electrical equipment to the Showground will be required to ensure that such equipment is fitted with earth leakage circuit breakers and that all electrical leads, tools and appliances have been inspected and tagged by a licensed electrical contractor. This is essential for the safety of yourself, your fellow exhibitors and the general public and is a requirement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1983. The Act imposes very severe penalties in the event of non-compliance with its provisions. Any exhibitors who do not comply will not be allowed to exhibit at the Showground.

THE AUSTRALIAN DRIED FRUITS ASSOCIATION STATE RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION

The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants: Here’s what you need: 250g (80z) sultanas 250g (8oz) chopped raisins 250g (8oz) currants 125g (40z) chopped mixed peel 90g (3oz) chopped red glace cherries 90g (3oz) chopped blanched almonds 1/3 cup sherry or brandy 250g (8oz) plain flour 60g (2oz) self-raising flour ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg ½ teaspoon ground ginger 250g (8oz) butter ½ teaspoon ground cloves 250g (8oz) soft brown sugar ½ teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind ½ teaspoon almond essence ½ teaspoon vanilla essence 4 large eggs Here’s what you do: Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Please the mixture into a prepared tin no larger than 20cm (8”) and bake in a slow over the approximately 3 ½ to 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin.

NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2-3 pieces; cherries into 4-6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3-4 pieces.

Winners at Country Shows will each receive a cash prize of $10.00 and will be required to bake a second ‘Rich Fruit Cake’ in order to compete in a semi-final to be conducted by each of the 14 Groups of the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW. The 14 winners at Regional Level will each receive a cash prize of $10.00 and are required to bake a third ‘Rich Fruit Cake’ for the Final Judging at the Royal Easter Show, where the winner will receive a cash prize of $50.00.

77BREGULATIONS 1. Entry Fees are advertised in each section. Exhibitors must send their entries to the person specified, e.g. the Secretary. Exhibitors of Cattle, Horses, Sheep and Dogs must at time of entry state the age, breed, breeder (if known), when last shorn (sheep), name, sex and colour (horses) of exhibits. The Secretary shall be empowered to reject any entry not complying with the Regulations. 2. Any competitors not ready to take positions in any event at the scheduled time will be disqualified. 3. The Judge’s decision will be final. 4. Every livestock exhibit, accompanied by a Certificate of Entry, must be placed by the owner in the pen position allotted by the Stewards. 5. The attention of all exhibitors in District Events is drawn to the fact that all competitors and exhibitors in these events must be permanently residing within the Show district boundaries as defined on the map in the Schedule. Any disregard of this ruling will render the exhibitor liable to be disqualified. 6. In all Classes the Judge will disqualify all exhibits which do not comply with the terms as stated in the Section, and will not award prizes in any Class in which the exhibits do not possess sufficient merit. The Stewards will point out to the Judge all exhibits that do not comply with the stated terms. 7. All exhibits must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitor at the time of entry: and all farm produce is to be produced by the person exhibiting, except where otherwise specified. Any person knowingly making false entries for a prize shall forfeit the same. 8. Exhibitors will not be allowed to show labels denoting owners’ marks on sheep exhibited. Rams’ horns branded with the owners’ marks must have the marked portion covered. No exhibits shall have attached the name of the owner or exhibitor or any Medal or Certificate of Merit until the Judges have given their awards. 9. Every reasonable care will be taken of exhibits, but the Committee will not be responsible for any losses, damages or injuries either in transit or on the grounds, in any class. 10. No person, except those actually in charge and for whom an authority has been given, shall remain present during the adjudication of Judges, under any pretext whatsoever. The persons in charge must on no account leave their respective lot unless authorised by the Stewards of the Section. 11. All foals accompanying their mothers must be kept under control otherwise they will not be allowed on the ground. 12. All protests must be made in writing and lodged with the Secretary within 30 minutes after the Judging of exhibits. 13. The Disputes Committee shall consist of the Association’s Vice-Chairman of the Executive, a member of the Executive and the Captain of the Section concerned. 14. Where there is a tie in any Section, other than Sporting Events, the decision shall be made by drawing lots. 15. In all Champion classes there must be two or more exhibits; otherwise Champion ribbons will not be awarded. 16. No third award will be made in any class unless at least four entries are received.

17. Vehicles and Horses will not be allowed on the grounds apart from designated parking and stabling areas, unless entered as exhibits, or with the permission of the Committee. Riding or driving around the grounds unless on official Association business is strictly prohibited. Stewards are empowered to enforce this regulation. 18. Amplifiers will not be allowed except those operated by the Association. 19. Any exhibitors intending to bring electrical equipment to the Showground will be required to ensure that such equipment is fitted with earth leakage circuit breakers and that all electrical leads, tools and appliances have been inspected and tagged by a licensed electrical contractor. This is essential for the safety of everyone involved and is a requirement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Act imposes very severe penalties in the event of non-compliance with its provisions. Any exhibitors who do not comply will not be allowed to exhibit at the Showground. PLEASE CHECK ALL YOUR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND LEADS BEFORE YOU COME TO THE SHOWGROUND TO AVOID THE OCCURRENCE OF ANY DIFFICULTIES. All Challenge and Perpetual Trophies and Cups should be inscribed with the winner’s name, at the expense of the Association, and must be returned at least six weeks prior to the following Show.
