Volume 16 Issue 2 For The Parents, Staff, Students And Community Of Merritt Island High School July 2016 To download a PDF version of this newsletter, go to http://academypublishing.com/schools/merrittisland/merrittisland.php Message Principal’s The The summer is flying by! It’s hard to believe it is almost August. We hope your summer has been relaxing, safe and fun-filled. We look forward to seeing our students at registration on Tuesday, August 2nd from 8:00am-4:00pm. Please refer to our registration information in the newsletter for additional details. Our teachers have spent the summer attending workshops and trainings as well as enjoying some time off. As for administration, support personnel and guidance, we have been busy this summer putting together a master schedule, hiring new personnel, ordering books and supplies, coordinating the calendar, and getting the facility cleaned and ready for the new school year. Early release Wednesdays will begin on August 17th, which is the 2nd week of school and will continue every Wednesday through the end of the school year. These early release days will provide important opportunities for our teachers to engage in professional learning along with collaborative and individual planning. This time is valuable, as it will support school and district efforts to continuously improve teaching and learning for all children. We are all very excited about welcoming our brand new 9th graders and we will do this at our Mustang Roundup on Saturday, August 6th, at 8:45am in our auditorium. On the following Wednesday the doors will once again open as we start yet another school year with all the excitement as we have had in the past. We look forward to welcoming each and every one of you. GO MUSTANGS! Mollie Vega Principal
