Helping students prepare for careers in merchandising is
the goal of the Merchandising Careers Consortium. Area
universities and community colleges participate to help
students find the right educational opportunities to reach
their career goals.
Here’s a list of universities and community colleges in
the Houston region ready to help you prepare for mer-
chandising careers. Community colleges typically pro-
vide excellent foundations and technical skills which
open doors to success in the field. Universities extend
that education for those seeking higher level skill, man-
agerial, and executive positions. For information about

Community Colleges andUniversities Offer Preparation forMerchandising Careers
Transferring is EasyTransferring coursework from a community col-lege to a university is easy! Specific courses havebeen selected to transfer easily from a 2-yearschool to a 4-year school. Here’s how it works:1. Select merchandising as a career path.2. Choose a community college and a university whichprovide education for careers in merchandising.3. Meet with an academic counselor or facultyadvisor to select community college courses whichare approved for transfer to the merchandisingdegree program at the university. (Telephonenumbers are listed in this brochure.)4. Gain admission to and complete the require-ments for courses and/or programs at the commu-nity college.5. Meet with an academic counselor or facultyadvisor at the university to verify your courseswhich are approved for transfer.6. Gain admission to and complete the require-ments for graduation at the university. (Uponadmission your community college work in cours-es approved for transfer will be applied to youruniversity degree plan for graduation.)
