    IntroductionAbout the Class

Over the course of this Four-day class, you will learn how to use Mentum

Planet functionality to model your WCDMA network.

    Mentum Planet 5 is a state-of the-art RF

    planning software.

It allows you to create detailed models

of air interfaces with support for

advanced antenna systems. Also alllegacy systems are supported from

HSPA+ to FDMA all systems can be

    modeled in the same project

    Key ConsiderationsProject Settings

On the General tab, if you want to save project display settings, associate a

workspace (.wor) file with the Mentum Planet project.

On the Geodata tab, specify the geodata settings respecting the required

    folder structure.

On the Coordinate System tab, ensure that the units are defined

appropriately and that you use units consistently across the project.

On the Folders tab, specify the Bin or Prediction View folders on a central

server if you want to save disk space locally.

On the Mobile Speeds tab, specify the mobile speeds to be used

    throughout the project

On the Advanced Options tab, if you are using Data Manager, enablesharing permissions. When a file type is shared (i.e., the check box is

enabled), the absolute path to the data is stored in Data Manager.

On the Custom List and Custom Data tab, you can pre-define customer

attribute that can be further assigned to different project elements.

Project SettingsConfiguring a Mentum Planet Project

    Mentum Planet fully supports

    User Mobility.

    Mobile speed values are used

    when you define subscriber

types in the Subscriber Settingsdialog box. Each usage type is

    associated with a mobile speed.

    Mobile speeds are also used

    when you define modulations in

    the Network Settings dialog box.

The impact of the mobile speed

    is greater at higher

    modulations.

    PredictionsGenerating (Drive Test/Prediction Merging)

Different names have been given to this concept: survey prediction tool,

    measurement-based predictions, path-loss tuning, etc.

All techniques relate to the same solution

Use measurement data where its available

Use predictions where measurement data is not available

    Use interpolation of both in-between

What you obtain in the end is a propagation prediction that is better than

both a regular prediction and measurement data

Typical accuracy levels you can reach are

0 dB if you use the same data to generate and evaluate!

Typically 3 to 5 dB RMS depending on the proportion of available drive test

    data in the area

    IntroductionDefining a Data Manager Workflow

1 From the Data Manager Administrator, obtain the necessary User ID and password.

2 Connect to Data Manager and perform a Get to copy the project stored on the server to your local workstation.

    3

In Data Manager, lock the sites and settings you will be modifying. This avoids others submitting changes while you

work on your area. To make this easier, create a filter by choosing View

    Filter.

    4

Modify your local project as required. Ideally, you have been assigned a defined group or your area has beenidentified using specific flags or a specific site set.

    5

On a regular and fairly frequent basis, connect to Data Manager and choose Synchronize to copy any modificationsto the master Data Manager project to your local workstation and, simultaneously, to submit any changes your havemade locally to the Data Manager so they are available to other users.

    6

    SubscribersUnderstanding Input Load

The input load is amount traffic contributed by one subscriber

    from using a given service

The type of service and usage pattern determines input load

    per subscriber

The input load and traffic map together determine the

number of active subscribers in each Monte Carlo simulation

    run

Input load is quantified by Erlang per subscriber and

    Throughput per subscriber

For packet data call, input load may be determined according to its call profile

    SubscribersUnderstanding Activity Factors

A packet data call consists a number of packet transmissions. The

two consecutive packets are separated by the packet inter-arrival

time. Therefore, transmission of data packets is not continuous.

From the RF point view, the radio channel is active during packet

transmission, and, inactive during the packet inter-arrival time, when no packet is transmitted (although from network point of

view, the user is still in active state until a timeout period is

    reached).

The activity factor is defined as the percentage of time when radio

    channel transmits on downlink/uplink.

DL and UL activity factors are used in sector throughput and

    interference calculation

    S b ib

  • 7/30/2019 Mentum Planet 5.3.0 Core and WCDMA VersionB

    103/139

    SubscribersDefining DL/UL Activity Factor

For a circuit switched voice service, the activity factor is typically

    40% to 50%

For packet switched data service, the activity factor varies with

applications and radio bearers used to support the service

The DL/UL activity factors in the Planet service settings should bedefined according to the lowest DL/UL bearer service data rates

that are allowed for the service.

The Planet analysis algorithm automatically scales activity factor

when the served by a higher data rate bearer. The asymmetry nature of the packet data service can be modeled

by specifying different DL and UL activity factors

    SubscribersUnderstanding Usage Weightings

Subscribers in different environment may experience different radio signal fading and losses Planet defines four environment types that can be assigned individually to each clutter class

The usage weightings determine the traffic distribution in different environment types
