It is with great pleasure that I welcomethe UK high-technology SMEs that arepart of the Tata / UK Trade & Investmentmentoring and partnership program toIndia from the 1st to the 6 Oct 2013.

The program will help to increase the UKSMEs understanding of the businessculture of Indian firms and areas oftechnology development. It willencourage the creation of partnerships inthe Indian market, and with Indianpartners for global opportunities. Theprogram was announced in May 2013 bythe UK Chancellor of the Exchequer,George Osborne, the Indian FinanceMinister, P. Chidambaram and theDirector of Tata Limited, Syed AnwarHasan.

Tata and UKTI ran a competition toidentify the most suitable high-tech SMEsthat could benefit from the program. Thiscompetition considered the technologyinnovation of the SMEs, their capacity toscale and prospective areas of businessopportunity in India.

The SMEs were selected from a large poolof entries and are part of a vibrant andvaluable UK technology sector that is

committed to innovation, excellence andto expanding its presence in the globalmarket.

The program is being led by theTechnology Partnerships Unit in UKTILondon in association with the UKTI Indiateam. Technology Partnerships seeks toincrease the international performance ofUK high-growth technology SMEs throughdirect trade, collaboration and partnerships.

I am pleased that Tata have engaged withTechnology Partnerships and that theyhave worked closely to develop thementoring and partnership program. Ilook forward to a long lasting relationshipwith Tata that will benefit UK SMEs, Tataand India more generally.
