Mental Health Awareness Aims & Objectives This one-day course is aimed at those people who have little or no previous training in mental health, but who may, as part of their work, come into contact with people suffering from mental health problems. The course gives you understanding of Mental Health Conditions/problems and is taught by highly experienced Mental Health and Crisis Practitioners. The course will increase the students knowledge & understanding of Mental Health when assisting/supporting/nursing clients in their care. The course will examine in honest detail the preconceptions and fears we all have about mental ill health. It will increase awareness of mental health issues and understand the impact that mental health problems can have on an individual's day to day functioning and will also increase awareness and confidence when coming into contact with clients and employees with mental health issues. Course Objectives At the end of the course, Students will be able to identify & describe: The terms of "mental health" and "mental illness". Be aware of the general assumptions and prejudices about mental health problems. Recognise some of the signs and symptoms of mental health problems. Have a basic knowledge of some common mental illnesses including depression, anxiety, SAD, OCD, panic attacks, eating disorders, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder. Understand how it might feel to have a mental health problem Know how to communicate more effectively with people who have mental health problems. Be introduced to basic tools for coping with mental ill health Target Group Any Staff working in the Health and Social care setting who require increased knowledge and skills to enable them to deliver an effective, caring, professional service to all service users/older Adults and who provide a supportive role to their families and carers. Accredited Not accredited however this course will be taught by experienced RMN’s, who are currently working in practice in the Crisis team or who have just left the NHS.

Mental Health Awareness

Aims & Objectives

This one-day course is aimed at those people who have little or no previous training
