FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Edgewood Members,
The “official” summer season is coming to a close. We hope that you enjoyed the good weather, the golf course,
the pool, the tennis, and your dining and entertaining. I believe the staff has been at the top of their game.
A few items deserve mention.
Our golf course has been a true spectacle to behold this season. It has rivaled and surpassed the competition.
Stan and his crew are again commended for their hard work—and the rainy weather of late has made it hard. We
want you to be aware that the browning of the grass in the rough is caused by the unusually hot, then wet, weather
and is a combination of a weak strain of grass scattered in the rough, susceptible to insects and an opportunistic
fungus. These areas are being treated judiciously and over seeded with a hardier strain of grass. You should see
improvement in these areas soon.
The Clubhouse has had maintenance on the front entrance driveway turnaround. The area was sealed and looks
much improved. We are also addressing the condition of the entrance, but this will require some short term
changes followed by more definitive treatment in the future. We also had to do an emergency fix on a drainage
area adjacent to the Vista Lounge. Water was leaking from a ground pipe and finding its way into the back of the
storage areas. That problem was fixed this week.
Our Food and Beverage areas have been doing a fantastic job with new, special events. If you have not had the
chance to enjoy Thursdays on the Vista Patio, I feel badly for you. Special menus and the best golf course view
around has made each event enjoyable. Our last one is Thursday, September 29 from 5:30pm until 9pm.
Oktoberfest food, entertainment and specialty beers are the appropriate way to close out these special nights. For
Halloween, we are doing something new: an Edgewood Pumpkin Patch. Outdoor activities, pumpkin decorating
and a variety of fun fall foods will be available. Holiday Banquets are not too far down the road, so plan ahead.
More info on those in the coming weeks.
And finally, thanks to our Golf Professional staff. They have done wonders for your games, clothed you
properly and been at your service for a busy golf season. They have also consistently gotten praise from the
outside parties and guests that come to play. We are fortunate to have them at Edgewood.
Our fundraising for the 10 & 18 project sits at $104,500 as of today. We still have time for additional
contributions, and could definitely make good use of the funds. Please consider a contribution. Work begins in
October!
Thank you for your Membership.
David S. Buck, MD
President
FROM THE GOLF PRO Are you tired of using your umbrella yet? I know I definitely am at this point. What a wet and crazy month it has been!
First I want to congratulate all of our Club Champions. I had the opportunity to be out on the course watching a lot of the action
unfold. All of our champions worked hard and deserve the praise they receive.
Randi Lichtenstein won the Ladies Gross Club Championship and Rosemary Rosella took home the Ladies Net Club
Championship. Paul Ajak III won the Men’s Gross Club Championship and Max Beier won the Net Club Championship. Brian
Dzuban was our Overall Junior Club Champion. Finally our Men’s August Invitational was held and Rich Yohe and his guest
Josh Wells were crowned our champions of that event. Congrats to all of our champions!!! Our Ladies Invitational and
Husband and Wife Championship will also happen in late August and the results will be posted in the October newsletter.
Other Junior Golf Champions included Anthony Youngo and Mackenzie Woehler winning the 9 hole divisions, Luca Sosso and
Rachel Dzuban winning the 6 hole divisions, Will Nelson and Gabriella Smith winning the 3 holer groups, and Quinn Conner
and Alyssa Beltz winning our one holer divisions.
Our Annual Men’s Super Stag will take place on Friday, September 16th. It is a 27 hole one day Member Guest. The sign up
sheet is posted in the Men’s Locker Room. Don’t miss out on the action. Sign up for this great event today.
If you are like many players including myself, September is a personal favorite time of year to play a round of golf. The climate
is ideal and nature provides a great background to come out and make some swings.
With the amount of daylight changing, so does our first tee time on weekends and certain hours of operation. Starting after
Labor Day, the first tee time on weekends will be 7:30 AM. Weekend SWATS will now begin at 9:30 AM. The first time on
weekdays will stay at 8:00 AM.
During the upcoming month we will be doing our fall aeration on the Golf Course. The fairway aeration will be done on
September 21st – 22nd. Greens aeration will take place September 27th - September 29th. During those days, the entire golf
course and driving range are closed. The Golf Shop hours will be 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM during aeration.
During the days we are closed for aeration, the Golf Committee has lined up an exciting opportunity to play one of the best golf
courses in Western PA – Sunnehanna Country Club! Please keep an eye out for an email with more info on this great
opportunity.
Finally, the fall season is here. Make sure to check out the latest lines of Men’s and Ladies’ clothing in the golf shop. These
lines include shirts and pullovers from Cutter and Buck, Polo, Peter Millar, Foot Joy and Straight Down.
Have a great month and see you at the
club!!!

A LETTER FROM THE WOMEN’S
GOLF ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT August was jammed packed with many fun events and much rain. To start off the month, the Ladies Presidents' Day was
held. There was a tie for the past president, co-winners Ronnie Deer and Maureen Puntil. Other winners were combined
best ball of partners, tied for first, Charlene Yourick and Lee Larson and Ronnie Deer and Leslie Swensen. Best ball of
partner winners were Ronnie Deer and Leslie Swensen. Joan Hurrell, Liz Kilkenny, and Gladys Thomas came back to
enjoy a wonderful lunch and social time on the porch. On Friday, August 5th, Pete and Steve took a group of ladies to Indiana Country Club. We played a round of golf and
had lunch. Thanks to the Pros for setting a "fun filled" day. Rain, rain go away. The Mixed Ryder was cancelled due to too much water on the course. The Yenny, ladies championship, was held on a soggy course. The 3 day event was dry and without delays, but very wet
and humid days. The Ladies Champion is Randi Lichtenstein with a 3 day score of 261. First place low gross in the
championship flight is Pat Kirk. Rosemary Rosella captured the first place in the net division. Congratulations to all! The sun was out for the Ladies invitational. The theme was "A Diamond in the Rough". The co-hosts, Linda Antonelli
and Arlene Kokales did a wonderful job. Everyone looked nice in their "bling". Vicki Bezeredi, Angie Piesak,
Sara Kostelac, and Sue Molinaro came in first place with a score of 118. With a score of 119, coming in second place
was Ronnie Deer, Ethel Quinlan, Pat Kirk and Maureen Napolitano. Many skill prizes were awarded and the most
coveted “Best Bling Couple," went to Ginger Bauer and Judy Pardons. And last but not least, the rescheduled husband and wife tournament. What a change for the previous date. The sun was
out. Just as everyone was finishing, the siren went off and the heavens opened up. There was a tie for low net between
the Werders and the Yates. The course was under water and the 2 couples decided to be co-winners! The low gross
winners were Sam and Randi Lichtenstein. The partner low net winner belonged to the Yates and the Werders. So glad
we got our Husband and Wife championship completed. Congratulations to all. Sue Graham
