The holidays are filled with tradition. Here at the Pink Palace Family of Museums we have been fortunate to have such traditions as On Track in Memphis, the Enchanted Forest Festival of Trees, and Santa vs. the Snowman. This year we are adding another treat that I am sure will become a regular—a second holiday IMAX® film, The Light Before Christmas.

As much as we are looking forward to seeing you here over the holidays, I am looking ahead even more eagerly to the coming new year. Our exhibit staff has outdone itself by securing the exhibit, The Bison: American Icon. This is a great traveling exhibit augmented with seldom seen Plains Indian artifacts from the collections of the University of Pennsylvania Museum and the Field Museum in Chicago. This is more than a once-in-a-lifetime chance. There will never be another opportunity to see this exhibit, with these artifacts, as you will be able to see it here at the Pink Palace.The Bison exhibit is paired with an IMAX film, Born to Be Wild, which recently won six awards at the Giant Screen Theater conference. In IMAX terms this is the equivalent of Academy Awards in every major category. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the film tells the story of humans who play with, care for, and educate orphaned orangutans and elephants, enabling them to return to the wild.Back to the holidays, though….year’s end is the time many people think about gift-giving and, in particular, charitable donations. I hope you will consider a gift to the Pink Palace Family of Museums. This year and every year, we provide unique and inspiring educational experiences to school children, many of them at no cost to the kids. Even the ones who do pay for their field trips must be subsidized at about $10 each.
