Obituary Shirley Neill Hanes was born Shirley Boydston on February 28, 1928, in the community of Alsa, near Wills Point, TX. She married Bill Neill in 1945 and they enjoyed fifty years of marriage to-gether. Two years after Bill’s death, she became reacquainted with Sam Hanes, a high school friend, and they wed in 1998. Shirley often commented that she married her best friend twice. Family was the heart of Shirley’s world. She succeeded in her ambition to be a good wife, mother and homemaker, but also pressed for the development of Special Education services in her community. She served initially as a volunteer in the Special Edu-cation programs and eventually as a staff member for several years. A life-long Baptist, Shirley served her church and commu-nity in numerous ways, but most often by bringing food to the sick and bereaved. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Neill, parents, Ira and Glynn Boydston, two sisters, Bobbye Foster and Dell Boydston. She is survived by her husband, Sam Hanes of Terrell; sisters Willowdeen Lindsey of Terrell, and Tommye Little of Dal-las; children Suzanne and Isaac Elizondo of San Antonio, Rick Neill and Jean Otto of Glen Rose, Ken Neill of Ft. Worth, and Randy Neill of Terrell. Her grandchildren include Laura and Danny Langfield of Austin, Daniel and Feng Elizondo of Houston, Nic and Jennifer Elizondo of Dallas, Peggy and Aaron Cagle of Dallas, Casey and Joseph Thomas of Ft. Worth, and Holly Neill of Baton Rouge. Shirley’s most recent delight was her great-grandchildren Bella and Zach Langfield of Austin, and Lizzie Cagle of Dallas. Shirley passed away November 10, 2012, at her home in Terrell, TX.
