IIJE"HEOOIClllli fOR A lOT Of IiOOD 111EllJaycees must forever be conscious ofthe value of membership recruiting.

When you consider that 98% of ourpotential members are yet to beextended an invitation to join ourinternational organization, then yourealize just how broad ouropportunity is.J. S. Mill once said, "One personwith a belief is equal to a force ofninety-nine who have only interest?'There are several young Jayceesacross this nation who have the beliefand they are getting things done. They need help from more of us toaccomplish our goals.Tom Keene, State President ofIndiana, has adopted the slogan"Excitement for Excellence?' Thisslogan seems to express the generalattitude being displayed nationally. We do have something to be excited

about as Jaycees. As Louie Armstrong once saidwhen asked to explain Jazz, "Manyou can't feel it, I can't hardlyexplain it?'Bunny Adcock, Arkansas StatePresident, has selected the slogan,"Reach Out?' Walt Sady, StatePresident of California, believes thsecret to recruitment is the motto,"You gotta ask?' He has beenreporting amazing results not onlyterms of new members but also inthe new excitement in Jaycees dointhe asking.Below is just one personaltestimony of thousands throughoutthe country that has happened inyoung men's lives when given theopportunity to become involved inthe greatest young man's organizatiin the world - Jaycees. _

Membership alld Thallk You-As we all know theIrving Jaycees are in trouble but I think we canlift our heads and do something about it. As forme, let me tell you my opinion of my accomplishments the past year or two. Two years ago I becamean Irving Jaycee. I could not even spell Jaycee, let alone be one then something happened. Someold-heads got their hands on me and told me Iwas going to be the best Irving Jaycee in thechapter. I told them that they were crazy. I did nothave the time or the money to be that active soJerry Smith, Bill Roche, Ed Day, Jerry Wallis andothers told me to pull my head out and make somesacrifices. So I made some. I neglected my family, job and entertainment. Now let me explain thatlast statement. In so much as my family, instead ofstaying home every night and fighting and makinglife miserable and then getting mad and going to

    10

the nearest bar, which was every night, now I usethe time away from home to work on some Jayceeproject. When I get back home, it is a greatpleasure to me to have a home life. Now let me tellyou about my job. Before I became a Jaycee I didnot have any responsibility, I was just a commonlaborer with no future. But then it happened, Istarted getting new responsibilities and moremoney. My attitude changed, I took a new interestin my work and generally felt good. The onlyreason I can see at all for this success is theIrving Jaycees. As you can see there were a few guysthat cared about me enough to help. Now what Iam trying to say is let's not give up, let's try togive other young men the opportunity to becomean Irving Jaycee. Someday I will look back and sayTHANK GOD for the Irving Jaycees. _Larry W. Sage

Usually the best promotions arelocated in shopping centers or on a busy sidewalkwith pedestrian traffic. The best times are Fridayevening and all day Saturday, up until late afternoon.Basically, a booth (one or more card tables aresufficient) is set up and manned by teams of Jayceeson shifts. Some of the materials required would bechapter banner and signs.8. Nc,:, /vt clI/has:Perhaps your best source of prospects is your newmember. He knows and associates with people who
