Policy

“As my company keeps me very busy, I have very little time for politics. Being a member of the IoD puts me in a fortunate position where I can add my voice on a regional and national level.”

Government policy-makers can have a direct impact on your business. It’s important they hear your voice, especially in today’s economic climate. That’s where IoD Policy is critical.

Comprised of specialists from key areas of public policy relating to business – economics, taxation, infrastructure for business, regulation, skills, pensions and corporate governance – our IoD Policy team gives you a direct link to the ears of policy-makers in many areas of influence.

We constantly propose changes to legislation under review and our policy papers feature regularly in public debate. We challenge policy-makers across radio, television and the press on our members’ behalf:

Make yourself heard• arguing for a reduction in the

burden of tax and regulation

• calling for radical reform of public services

• highlighting the desperate need for investment in infrastructure

• advancing the case for change in education

• setting out clear proposals for corporate governance reform

We report back the results of our lobbying through regular commentaries and policy publications, including our flagship journal Big Picture.

iod.com/policyvoice

From the UK government to the EU, the media and other areas of influence, we put forward your views to the decision makers at the heart of policy-making.

• Your interests will be actively represented at both a local and national level.

• By joining our Policy Voice panel, you will have the opportunity to make your views clear in regular surveys.

• We listen to what our members want – you influence what change we campaign for.

• You’ll be given access to policy seminars, debates and business barometer breakfasts, through which you can put your views across.

With us, you have genuine influence in the corridors of power

Crossing the ChannelYour influence doesn’t stop at the UK’s borders either. We’re one of the three founders of the European Confederation of Directors’ Associations (ecoDa), which gives you a voice within the major policy-making institutions of Europe.

The IoD is also one of the original members of the Global Network of Directors’ Institutes (GNDI), an international collaboration of membership organisations to share expertise in corporate governance and professional director development.

iod.com/policy

• You can make your views clear to IoD Policy by joining Policy Voice and sharing your experience in our regular surveys.

• IoD Policy represents your views to policy-makers across the key areas of public policy, both through the media, and face-to-face away from the public spotlight.

• Led by the Director-General, IoD Policy staff meet regularly with ministers, their advisors, senior civil servants and MPs from across the spectrum to advance the business case.

• We produce policy papers which contribute significantly to wider debates, respond to government consultations on the detail of policy proposals and address business conferences, both in the UK and internationally, to campaign on members’ behalf.

• Our Policy team keeps one step ahead of issues that will affect you in the future, as well as publishing regular commentary on the immediate economic outlook. Apply for membership now:
