He described every detail perfectly in total darkness during a complete blackout and got a standing ovation when the lights came on after his talk.

Lynne K. Tiras, CMP

Managing Since: 1982 (Lynne),

1990 (Harvey)

Fun Fact: The SGR was my first client,

when I opened IMM in 1986

About Company: International Meeting Managers, Inc. (IMM)

First SGR Meeting: In 1982 Dr. Ed Singleton, came to the Office of Continuing Education at Baylor College of Medicine, where I was planning meetings for the various departments. Dr. Singleton, as the incoming President of the SGR needed a meeting planner for their annual meeting at Banff, Canada. He had not been pleased that the meeting planner at the 1981 SGR meeting would not make room for his wife, to go on one of the tours. I was given the opportunity to manage the 1982 meeting, and the rest is history! Each year thereafter, Dr. Singleton and I would have a celebratory toast to the planner he did not hire.

First SUR Meeting: In 1991, when we became the meeting managers for the SUR.

The SGR/SUR Merger: Working with the leaders of both Societies during the merging process was quite interesting and exciting. In 2012, the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) was formally merged.

Early SGR Memory: In 1982, to say how long ago this was, Harvey flipped the lights at the meeting at Banff Springs Hotel between “slide presentations,” and I had made name badges on a “typewriter” for the meeting and assigned workshops by hand.

Greatest Accomplishment: Our daughter and son, our five grandchildren and our four great grandchildren

Words of Wisdom: As you continue to attend future SAR meetings, please remember to “book

your hotel room early.”
