The common concern expressed by many executives was the impact other animal welfare groups may have on the humane movement, as well as the future of their organizations. Administrators saw the necessity of periodic meetings where concerns and ideas could be openly shared and discussed, thus, the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA) was formally organized on April 25, 1970.
