About ISSE‘Indian Society of Structural Engineers’ (ISSE) was founded on 29th Jan1997 by ten advisory trusteesunder the leadership of great visionary & eminent engineer Late R. L. Nene its membership all overIndia in now more 1000. ISSE has been founded to resolve issues for the welfare of structural

engineers since there was no professional institution solely dedicated and development to the causeof structural engineering profession in India, it fulfils the great need felt over many years. The goal ofISSE is to enhance the dignity of structural engineers and evolve suitable norms for theirresponsibilities and remunerations, bringing a brotherhood and dignified role in the society.

The prime area of operation of the society covers the following :

1. To Uphold the role and status of Structural Engineer in construction industry with an awareness ofprofessionalism.

.2. To define Boundaries of Responsibilities of Structural Engineers, commensurate withremuneration.

3. To get deserving registration with all Government Organizations, Corporations and similar otherbodies all over India, for the members

.

4. To assist and coordinate Certification policies adopted by various authorities i.e. Central, State andSemi Government bodies including Municipal Corporation, MHADA, CIDCO (in Maharashtra ) and

similar other bodies in other states to remove anomalies if any.

5. To apprise all State, Central & semi – Government bodies, Corporations including Municipalities,the necessity of appointing Structural Engineers directly by organization to have their services forsafety and soundness of structures to be built.

6. To update members on the development in various fields of structural engineers i.e. Designing,Computer Programming, Construction, Rehabilitation, research investigative testing or teaching ect.and arrange training there of.

In order to achieve the above goal, it is the need of the hour that all professional Engineers includingthose in service to come under platform for their rightful place in the society. For this purpose, ISSEwelcomes all working in the field of structural engineering to becomes its member,



Indian Society of Structural Engineers Aims & Object ives

A. THE INDIAN SOCIETY OF STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS is the institute ofStructural Engineering Professionals. The Society Primarily have following aims &Objective :

• Safeguard and promote the common interest of the Society.

• Disseminate useful and advance technical knowledge and practical informationsto members.

• Act as prime representative to various statutory organizations including those ofState & Central Government, for common professional interests of the Society.

• Make rules and regulations and take appropriate action to give affiliation to otherlike minded organizations.

• Modify and / or formulate any other additional aims and objects, as theprofession demands.

B. RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE SOCIETY

• Every person desirous of enrolling himself / herself as a member of the societyshall fill in prescribed form completely along with payment of subscriptionthere of to become a member and shall agree to abide by the professionalCode of practice of the society.

• The right of membership shall be that of the individual member himself and cannot be transferred.

• The Trustees shall have the power to suspend or remove or exclude frommembership any member who contravenes the code, regulations or whosecontinued membership is, in the interest of the society benefitting the professionof structural engineering.

• As and when considered necessary, the Trustees of the society may from time totime modify the conditions of eligibility, qualification of different classes and typesof Memberships

C. MEMBERSHIP

• The Society shall consist of members constituted by the followingCategories :(A) MEMBER(B) JUNIOR MEMBER(C) ORGANISATION MEMBER

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERS

• Membership : Open to any Engineer (Civil / Construction) with a degree from anyrecognized institution / University with minimum three years experience or aDiploma or equivalent qualification with minimum five years experience or aperson having adequate years of experience in any branch of StructuralEngineering.

• Junior Membership : Open to a fresh Engineers (Civil / Construction) Degree/Diploma or equivalent qualification with three years / five years experience fromthe date of obtaining qualifications. He/She should become a regular

member.

• Organization Membership : Open to Organisation engaged in practice / service ofStructural Engineering. aspect of Structural Engineering. The organisationmember is entitled to have two designated technical representatives toparticipate in the activities of the society.

• Rehabilitation and retrofitting of Structures

• Computer Software

• Construction Technique and Management

• Proficiency Material Technology on concrete, steel, masonry, timber, earth,ferrocement plastic, structural glass ect.

• Geo-Tech & Foundation Engineering

• Teaching, Research & Development

• Environment Engineering

• Any other related branches

• Non Destructive Testing
