WHAT ARE OUR MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS?

Commercialization and monetization, interoperability, rapid deployment, interference management, regulation, market awareness, standardization, security, business case, market drivers.

2016 PRIORITIES

Accelerating mass market deployment through smarter workflow, configuration and quality management, sharing innovation and best practice through commercial deployment stories, advancing Wi-Fi integration, driving new service revenues through open APIs, working with SDO partners to standardize enhancements to small cell management data models, pioneering the virtualization of small cells through the development of the nFAPI interface. In short – accelerating the delivery of integrated HetNets.

WHO WE WORK WITH

Small Cell Forum is not a standards body. It is a carrier-led trade organization that delivers requirements to standards organizations to drive the wide-scale adoption of small cells and accelerate the delivery of integrated HetNets.

HOW WE WORK

Small Cell Forum is now working on a number of important new technology areas to which small cells are fundamental. We’ve identified leading operators and vendors as our project Champions to drive these initiatives. If you’re working in any of these areas and want to get involved – JOIN US TODAY.

Who are the Small Cells Champions?HETNET AND SON: Accelerating the delivery of integrated HetNets is now integral to our mission. SON is an essential enabler, automating the integration of small cells into the wider HetNet and allowing it to scale. AT&T is working with Ericsson and Airhop to broaden the Forum’s work in this area, which is the theme for our next major release in May 2016.

ENTERPRISE: Orange, SpiderCloud Wireless and Huawei are leading a fresh look at this rapidly growing market, making sure the ecosystem is scaling healthily and driving resolution of any emerging issues through our Release Program.

VIRTUALIZATION: China Mobile, Cisco and ip.access are building on the work contained in Release 5.1, moving the industry towards interoperable interfaces for small cells in the virtual RAN.

LICENCE EXEMPT: Vodafone and Qualcomm are coordinating efforts across the Forum to position the different ways that licence exempt spectrum can be leveraged in small cell deployments, including Carrier Wi-Fi, LWA, LAA and Wi-Fi Calling.

MULTI-OPERATOR SMALL CELLS: These can greatly reduce barriers to deployment, but are not without their challenges. Truphone and ip.access are bringing together inputs from the Forum’s working groups to address the technical, business case and regulatory issues.

5G, IOT AND M2M: There is no doubt that 5G will be built on a dense network of small cells. Reliance Jio and Huawei are leading the Forum’s contribution to industry activity around 5G, IoT and M2M, bringing our practitioner’s perspective.
