Established in 1961, GRAEF is a leading U.S. consulting firm, as ranked by Engineering News Record

Magazine, with over 300 engineers and scientists. Providing our clients with the highest level of technical

expertise has been a priority and a hallmark of our business. Our technical personnel are able to address all

phases of analysis, design, restoration, monitoring and adaptive management. We specialize in natural

resource management for many types of clients including land conservancies, nature preserves, municipalities

and utilities; GIS services; hydrology and hydrogeology; surface water planning; wetland services; landscape

architecture; rare and endangered species surveys and permitting; sustainable design; land information

management; and environmental engineering services including documentation.

Innovate - We have a team of specialists who offer a broad spectrum of land conservation and natural

resource management skills. Our services range from natural resource inventory through habitat evaluation,

groundwater modeling and design services for mitigation and restoration of existing habitats. Our staff includes

biologists, ecologists, wetland scientists, soil scientists, GIS professionals, hydrogeologists and hydrologists.

The services we provide can be tailored to address a specific project challenge, or we can assume total

project responsibility from planning and data gathering through permitting and implementation.

Integrate - The integration of natural systems and the built environment is evolving into an ever-more

complex mosaic of integrated land use management challenges. As partners with our clients, we assume a

professional responsibility in achieving their scheduling, fiscal and functional goals, while maintaining an

ultimate responsibility for the protection of our shared environment. This is best achieved though active

communication, sensitivity to our clients’ requirements and limitations and the multidisciplinary appreciation of

scientific, cultural and engineering disciplines.

Collaborate - A well-qualified Natural Resources Management Team must bring about sustained

protection to environmentally sensitive areas while enhancing and restoring adjacent areas. This team must

have a broad background in ecology, erosion control measures, stormwater management, soil science, and

state and federal permit restrictions. Our experience and understanding of natural resources in the Midwest

makes the GRAEF team well-qualified to prepare plans and strategies to restore, protect and enhance the

natural resources on project sites.

Hey and Associates, Inc. has been a leader in water and natural resources consulting in the Chicago area for

over 30 years. During that time, Hey has worked with an array of private and public sector clients looking for

ways to protect, preserve, and enhance resources as well as to avoid and minimize impacts to resources when

developments occur.

Hey staff initially specialized in wetlands, but over the years expanded its focus to include expertise in virtually

all aspects of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Hey’s staff has the training, experience, and equipment

needed to conduct a range of environmental base surveys, including wetland delineations, floristic and other

functional habitat assessments, tree surveys, listed species surveys, and fish, mussel, and aquatic plant and

macroinvertebrate surveys.

Hey’s water resources planning and engineering skills embrace current technologies such as best management

practices (BMPs) for stormwater management, low-impact development strategies, bioengineering, and native

landscaping. Hey has conducted a number of anti-degradation studies to assess the impact of wastewater

discharges and wetland fills. Hey’s environmental planning, landscape design, and impact avoidance skills

have been significant elements of larger projects such as riverwalks, community and regional parks, trail

projects, and other urban design projects. In addition, Hey has a broad range of wetland mitigation and

restoration project experience, including small on-site projects of only a few acres to very large restoration

projects and mitigation banks.

Hey has a drain tile investigation division that has conducted over 200 subsurface drainage investigations.

The ability to locate, assess, GPS record, and map these subsurface structures has led to several successful

wetland restorations.

Hey has developed and implemented plans to create new natural resources, preserve existing ones, restore

degraded resources, and mitigate for those which unavoidably must be impacted. Hey’s design solutions have

always tried to mesh habitat protection and restoration with flood control, stormwater management, and water

quality protection—the same combination of multipurpose functions found in wetlands and stream systems.

Hey’s field services staff is available for seeding and planting projects as well for conducting monitoring and

management tasks. Experienced ecological restorationists know how to plant and seed to field conditions and

how to bring restoration projects from planning stage to successful fruition. Seeders, ATVs, and herbicide spray

rigs, and other ecological restoration equipment are all available for project use.

Land Resource Management Group (LRMG) was thoughtfully assembled in response to a growing demand for

professional expertise in ecological consultation, landscape design, and restoration management work

throughout the Chicago metropolitan region. Founded in June 2004, LRMG stressed from its beginning a

multidisciplinary approach to help clients improve their land and water resources.

LRMG philosophy is simple: ―Land to Water Stewardship.‖ Economic growth and prosperity within the built

world can be accomplished in concert with sound environmental design that strategically ensures the long-term

vitality of land and water resources. We address the challenge of natural resource stewardship by promoting

the best research-based land use practices, by providing innovative yet practical product delivery, and by

fostering strategic partnerships across civic, public, and private sectors. Our expert professionals engage our

clients and their stakeholders in an interactive exchange of ideas to generate the highest quality work in the

field. Consisting of restoration ecologists, wetland scientists, landscape architects, environmental engineers,

greenspace planners – supported by a team of AutoCAD/GIS technicians and graphic artists – this

interdisciplinary team achieves real-world results.

Combining a tradition of integrity, innovation, and excellence, SET Environmental, Inc. provides environmental

management services to a nationwide client base from seven locations throughout the United States. Founded

in Wheeling, Illinois in 1978, the firm currently employs more than 200 people, including over 100

environmental experts.

SET’s niche for excelling in technically demanding projects has resulted in a service line offering that includes

emergency spill response, environmental remediation, gas cylinder disposal, hazardous waste transportation,

industrial cleaning, hazardous waste management and high hazard remediation.

In 2009 SET started a National Sustainable Practices Division (NSPD) focused on sound and sustainable

solutions to challenging environmental problems. A primary focus of the NSPD is researching and

employing technology such as phytoremediation and constructed treatment wetlands to remediate

contaminated soil and water. Other NSPD client services include rainwater recapture and reuse practices,

wetland delineation and permitting, soil erosion and sediment control, and restoration of native ecosystems.

The NSPD also oversees and implements sustainable practices within SET.

Even as we thrive on meeting the challenges and needs of a technically demanding national clientele, SET

continues to reflect the personal warmth, ethics, and professional dedication of its founders. We share

considerable respect for each other’s chemical, geotechnical, mechanical, engineering and environmental

expertise and enjoy the experience of working together. SET is proud of its team approach, blending

engineering and technical skills to develop and implement the most appropriate and efficient environmental

management technologies for our clients.
