Daily ItineraryTuesday, July 30 Olde Santa FeThe group flight includes a private motorcoach transfer from Albuquerque Airport to your home for five nights, the Inn at Loretto, featuring a full-service spa, restaurant, three art galleries, and a tranquil garden. Our expert guide, Southwest cultural historian Alan Osborne, takes you on a walk through downtown Santa Fe where you will learn this beautiful town’s fascinating history: from its ancient Indian cultures to its early Spanish explorers to the American traders and immigrants down the Santa Fe Trail. After a Welcome Reception at the hotel, the Welcome Dinner takes place at Santacafé, one of Santa Fe’s best restaurants, located in a landmark adobe, the Padre Gallegos House.

Wednesday, July 31Pueblos, a Picnic and a PianoAfter breakfast offered daily at the hotel, we travel to the amazing site of the Pecos National Historical Park. Pecos preserves 12,000 years of history including the ruins of two Spanish Colonial missions and Indian pueblos, even a Civil War battle site! We’ll have a picnic lunch there before moving on to the home and studio of a remarkable Indian potter. Our first performance is this evening at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. The music includes the marvelous Piano Quintet by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a great wunderkind in his youth and later an Oscar-winning film composer, and Shostakovich’s Viola Sonata with one of the world’s best violists, Paul Neubauer.

Thursday, August 1Spanish Settlers and MozartThis morning we visit the village of Chimayo, an important cultural center for Hispanic arts and crafts, settled in the 1700s by Spanish settlers. We’ll visit a Hispanic weaving studio as well as the famed “Lourdes of America”, the Santuario (Sanctuary) de Chimayo, a chapel built over miracle healing earth in the early 1800s. Lunch is at the Restaurante Rancho de Chimayo, a local favorite renowned for its native New Mexican cuisine

Tonight, we head for the Santa Fe Opera founded in 1957 by John Crosby at a spectacular site in the desert seven miles north of the city. Our first performance is Mozart’s lively comic romp, Così fan tutte, with a brilliant cast under the baton of Santa Fe Opera’s Music Director Henry Bicket.

Friday, August 2 Georgia O’Keeffe and a Gala Opera Evening Today is dedicated to one of the greatest of all American artists, Georgia O’Keeffe, who made Santa Fe and vicinity her longtime home. We will

visit her home and studio in the village of Abiquiu for a private tour and the spectacular ‘red rock country’ she made famous. Lunch on your own. Tonight we are back at Santa Fe Opera for a wonderful full evening: a private backstage tour features a presentation by Costume Director Missy West, preceding a fabulous catered Tailgate dinner, a Santa Fe Opera tradition. The opera is Leoš Janácek’s formidable drama of murder and forgiveness, Jenufa, in David Alden’s award-winning staging for English National Opera. Met star soprano and Santa Fe resident Patricia Racette sings the role of Jenufa’s step-mother Kostelnicka.

As an option, we will provide transportation to Museum Hill where four splendid museums await you. This might also be a day to visit the O’Keeffe Museum featuring many of the artist’s visionary paintings. Tonight we have a double-feature!: at the Chamber Music Festival, an all-Bach program includes one of his great Cello Suites and after dinner nearby, we travel out to the Opera one final time for Puccini’s romantic tearjerker La Boheme, Italian maestro Jader Bignamini conducting a sterling young cast.
