DESCRIPTION
A short Editorial that Displays the typeface, 'Mellifluous'
Citation preview
I wanted to make a typeface that reflected my
studies of graphic design at Epsom UCA. Being
the first typeface that I Created and studying
typography in a completely different way, I felt
quite naive in the creation of Mellifluous. The idea
that the letters all flow from one continuing line
show I wasn’t very confident in the metric and
kerning aspect of the design. Also the idea that
this typeface has subtle aspects of different font
catergories gives it a certain un-canny charm.
Picking a name for this font was extremely
difficult but I finally came to choose the word
Mellifluous. It defines what I originally wanted
to achieve, “a sweet, flowing script typefce”.
Mellifluous also plays tribute to my general
love of typography, specificly my interest
of type in the early 1900’s. I have been lucky
enough to play around with old linotype,
letterpress machines and greatly appreciate
the craft and skill put into the fonts (lead and
woodlblock) way before computers where
around. Being able to physically see type in-
front of you really helps to understand where
all the terminlogy stems from, and really
helps in understanding how to design one.
Presenting Mellifluous Regular and Mellifluous Bold
MellifluousMellifluous is a word that is more likely to be applied to a person’s writing style,
but would also be appropriate for describing audible tone, voice or tenor.
