2019 Staff Development Days We have been allocated 6 Staff Development Days for Poseidon Primary School for 2019. We have been given an opportunity to train all our staff members in Talk 4 Writing as a whole school priority program to improve outcomes for all students at our school. One of the training days allocated to us falls within the allocated 6 days, Monday 21st July but we have been allocated another day Monday 14th October by DSF, registered Licenced Training Organisation.

I was hoping that our school community will be able to assist us in this regard and grant us an extra day to allow our staff members to be trained this year. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding this extra allocated day. I appreciate and thank you in advance for your assistance to help us to improve on all our whole school processes to benefit your children and their education.

Message from the Chaplain Greetings Parents, I am really excited to be coming on board as your new School Chaplain!

I had my first week in the school last week and have already been made to feel very welcome. A little bit about myself - I'm happily married with 2 daughters, aged 4 & 6. I started out as a primary school teacher, then spent some time teaching English to migrants and some time at home caring for my own children. A common thread across all of these roles has been being a listening ear to the people around me.

I believe that being available and being a listening ear is a really important part of being a school chaplain. I will do this through speaking with students individually, spending time in classrooms, running group programs and working together with the staff to ensure quality pastoral care is provided to the whole school community.

I can also provide community links for families by liaising with outside agencies to meet specific needs.

Some of the topics your child may like to talk to me about include: • Bullying • Friendship issues • Family/ home life • Transition to a new school • Anxiety • Resilience building

If you or your child would like to meet with me, please contact the office so we can arrange a time. My regular school days will be Wednesdays and Fridays. I look forward to partnering with you to support your child, and having lots of fun along the way!

ANZAC Commemorative Assembly Our ANZAC assembly for 2019 is scheduled for Friday May 3 at 9 am. As we would like to extend the link to the community during special events at our school, you are all invited to join us for the very important Assembly.

As part of our ANZAC commemorations we will be building an ANZAC Wall of Honour. If you have a family member who have taken part in active service in any Defence Force form around the world and would like to honour them, please complete the plaque attached at the end of this newsletter and return it to school by Friday April 12. Each plaque will be displayed on our ANZAC Honour Wall in the undercover area on the day of Assembly.

Additionally, if you have any memorabilia or artefacts related to ANZAC that you are willing to share with the community we will be setting up a display table in our school undercover area on the day. Please see Mr Swan and Mrs Willett as they will be coordinating the display. We appreciate both the financial and sentimental value often attached to such items and will take the appropriate measures to ensure their safety. To help us in caring for these items please ensure they are clearly labelled or marked in some way so their return can be simplified.

Blank copies of the plaque are also available from the Front Office ready for you to fill in.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, This year, our ANZAC Day ceremony will be held on Friday 3rd May at 9:00am. As part of our ANZAC commemorations we will be building a Wall of Honour. If you would like family members who have taken part in active service in any Defence Force from around the world to be honoured, please complete the plaque below and return it to the school office by Friday, 12th April.

All plaques returned to the school will be displayed on our ANZAC Honour Wall.
