The speaker called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm.

5. Presentations to Council

• Senate Presentation – Andrew Lalka The senate is the highest academic governing body and crosses over many areas of the university. Most of the work is done on various committees and emphasises participatory leadership by members spanning different faculties and areas. Please see the PowerPoint for more information on structure and highlights including topics such as emergency response, entrepreneurial innovation, UWO strategic vision, and ministry agreement. Please also contact Andrew directly if you have any questions regarding the Senate.

• VP Subcommittee Presentations I. Communications – Jessica Chin

The communications subcommittee works on publications, promotions, merchandise, social media, and website. If you have these skills or would like to learn more please join this committee.

II. Student Events – Kristen Crane Student events has the upcoming Health Science Formal (possible theme is fire and ice). The Health Science games, yoga rave, and amazing race are also events coming up.

III. Student Affairs – Morgan Jennings This sub-committee works on Fall Preview Day and March Break Open House. The wiki is also hoping to be launched in 2nd semester as well as a Change Camp is being organized. If you are passionate about helping students this is a good committee for you.

IV. Finance – Sumer Akbar Laura did the speaking as Sumer could not attend the meeting. The Student Opportunity Fund is key to this committee and is new this year. As a member of this committee you will be helping allocate where the donations are given.

6. President’s Announcements

Laura – Tomorrow is the last day for selling HOCO kits so please attend office hours. A risk management meeting was just attended and council is very responsible for everything we do.

• School Council Presidents

Faxi Toor – Health Studies Update. An idea was brought up for a health science poster sale. The Health Science has twitter up and running. The LAMP program and ‘Leave the Pack Behind’ is working to collaborate events. Socials are also being planned with more details to come. Kristian – First year rep applications have been sent out this week. A kin social is happening this year at ‘Jacks’ – more details to come. The kin grad committee is going to run an information session this year for students. Justin - Council members have all been completely decided. There is the first Nursing social coming up which has no cost on October 4th. There has been a scrubs sale that was very successful.

• USC Councillors The first meeting was yesterday. There was a brief overview about what was discussed at the USC meeting. A question was given out in regards to academic affairs and to what councils would like changed, what specific issues. This will be sent out to council members via email. A suggestion was made to how to get to office hours and which hours are available – which will be posted on the website.

I. Subcommittee signup – everyone at the council meeting was given a ballet to rank their preferences as well as their current skills.

10. New Business Mariel – Council is having a “Welcome Back HealthSci” Social for the faculty at Ceeps next Friday October 3rd. All proceeds go to Dream Team. A council dinner may be planned for before the event.

11. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 8:20.
