MOVIES-in-the-PARK Admiral Farragut

April 28, Thursday, 7pm

St. Petersburg Preservation (SPP) is excited that Movies in the Park returns for 2nd year to west St. Pete: April 28, Thursday, on the waterfront at Admiral Farragut

(west side of Park St. on Farragut boathouse property). We enjoyed a great Movies

in the Park last spring at this location! SPP will announce this movie selection and downtown Movies in the Park

at our Movie Announcement Party on April 14. Our party starts at 6pm in the courtyard of the Ale and the Witch, 111 2nd Ave. NE. The Movies in the Park

collectable poster by local artist Carrie Jadus will be unveiled. All are welcome to attend the free Movie Announcement Party.

Movies in the Park is a family friendly event for all ages to enjoy. The evening starts with an hour of live music at 7 pm, allowing you to come early,

relax and have a picnic as the day ends, the sun sets over the water before the movie starts at dusk. You are welcome to bring your own picnic or even simpler,

you can purchase food from some of our favorite vendors who will be set up on site. Please note, this is an alcohol-free event.

Parking is available either on the waterfront boathouse property or on the east side of Park Street in the Farragut parking lot (entrance on Country

Club Rd.). A police officer will be present to assist with Park St. traffic.

Movies in the Park on the downtown waterfront in North Straub Park returns for its 7th year each Thursday evening in May: 5, 12, 19, 26.

Both West Side and Downtown movies are FREE, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. Special thanks to our Oscar level sponsors, Sylvia Rusche State Farm

Insurance, HCA West Florida and Duke Energy. Thanks to Councilman Charlie Gerdes for help bringing Movies in Park to West Side!

St. Petersburg Preservation is a non-profit to advocate for, educate about and to celebrate the historic resources within our community. We believe it is our

unique mixture of the past with new development that makes St. Pete Special! www.stpetepreservation.org. Peter Belmont, Movies in the Park Chair

Our Man in the Lake, Tim Robinson

I did a cleanup this morning. Started off slow and I started thinking someone else

had put-in and cleaned it already. But, the north side never disappoints! I filled a bag with bottles, cans and quite a few very large pieces of heavy plastic bags. Not

shopping bags but big, industrial strength bags. The trash filled the large lawn bag I brought. What didn't go into the bag were 2 soccer balls, a baseball, a football and

about a dozen tennis balls. The tennis balls I'll take to the dog park this afternoon. They can always use them. The baseball I'll throw into the dugout next door. For

the soccer balls, do you have contacts for the kids teams? I'd like to donate them to a team or governing organization rather than leave them at the fields for anyone.

All in all, a good haul! And there's still more in there, I just ran out of room.

Will try to get out next week and finish up. Tim ***

Police Call Procedures for NON-Emergencies

Emergency: Call 911

1. Call 893-7780

2. Your call is answered by a "call-taker." This person asks you questions:

Location? – WF Park and Pinellas Trail, use new GPS Safety Markers.

Direction of travel N/S/E/W ~ “Walking/biking/driving north on 80th Street.”

Do you know the person?

Describe this person: Male/Female, Ethnicity, Height, Weight, Hair Color, etc.

What is this person wearing?

Are they armed?

Have they committed a crime?

Answer the questions as completely and accurately as possible.

The call-taker electronically enters the data while you are talking.

Be sure to GET the CALL-TAKER’S NAME and NOTE the TIME + DATE.

If the call-taker attempts to "talk you out of having a problem," ask for

officer to be dispatched and your call referred to SPPD “Dispatch Director.”

3. Information from the call-taker is immediately forwarded to a dispatcher.

Dispatcher assigns an Event/Call-for-Service Number and dispatches an officer.*

Page 11: Meeting - Jungle Terrace · 2016. 4. 1. · college in California. Upon graduation, he began his career in the Leisure Services field in Ontario, Canada. Chuck shares, “I decided

4. Wait for the officer to arrive. Get the officer's name and the Event number.

There is a Event number assigned to every call, even if the officer takes no action.

Action is taken: a "control/incident number" or official police report is created.

This report records the details of the actions taken. Get the Report Number.

Escalation: if the incident escalates (gang fighting, display of a weapon,

or attempting to harm someone) call 911 Emergency.

*Keep in mind that calls are prioritized by urgency.

Vagrants not doing anything, teens with boom boxes, and unobvious teenage drinking

are low priority compared to murders and forcible felonies . . .

thus it may take a while for an officer to respond.

If response is delayed, feel free to call dispatch again to request the status.

(At that time you can obtain the Event/Call-for-Service Number.)

Community Liaison Unit – 551-3183

Our Community Police: for ongoing incidents or needs-attention but less urgent.

Leave detailed message + your phone number. Officer returns your call in 24 hours.

Eliminating Sanctuary Cities

This week, the House Civil Justice Subcommittee passed an important piece of legislation aimed at eliminating so-called "sanctuary cities" within the State of Florida. House Bill 675 would require state and local governments and law enforcement agencies, including their officials and employees, to support and cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. In my view, "sanctuary city" policies in our state make communities less safe and run contrary to the rule of law. I believe that this bill strengthens Florida's adherence to immigration laws, and does so in a compassionate and common sense manner.

Florida's Businesses Created over 1 Million Jobs Since 2010

Florida businesses created over one million jobs since December 2010, including 239,900 total jobs over the past year alone. Florida also continues to be a national leader in job creation with the highest job growth rate among the 10 largest states for the ninth straight month . . . and experienced another drop in the unemployment rate.

From an old supply warehouse, Greg Descent created a BEAUTIFUL

architectural and exquisitely landscaped

"Taj Mahal of Tyrone Blvd."

This is coming to completion at 3301 Tyrone, next to the CITY Parking Lot

we had paved and Bike Path marked on it.

GRAND OPENING of Northwest Collision's new headquarters is April 16, Saturday at 12:30pm with Mayor Kriseman.

Greg donated $$$ toward 5 Live Oak Trees for JTCA to plant on the Trail.

Greg is eager to have a Shelter, Water Fountain, and Trash Can ON the

Trail adjacent his property. He will run city water to the fountain. Lets make it a Pet (low) and People (high) fountain.

There is NO water for MILES in either direction on the Trail. Greg asked JTCA to assist him in this endeavor.

Greg recently helped us on the TRAIL by cleaning up the Palm Tree forest adjacent to his property.
