Published 07/08/2015 | By Christina Nichols THE WOODLANDS, Texas Venezuela native, Raul Baduel, has been spending his summer pitching for the Woodlands Strykers . Having moved to The Woodlands this summer in order to play baseball for the Strykers and improve his skills, Baduel currently attends Frank Phillips College where he plans to major in finance. With baseball being the main sport in Venezuela, Baduel began playing the sport around the age of six. While he currently pitches, Baduel once played every position, aside from catcher, until he was 14 when he decided to focus more on pitching. When asked about the future of his baseball career, Baduel stated, “My goal is to play in the best level, and I am working hard to achieve it in these years. But in this moment, I am taking advantage of my talent in order to pay for my studies.” Aside from baseball, Baduel enjoys dedicating time to himself. “I read a lot, and I like to have a good relationship with God. I like to spend time with my family and friends. Most of them live in Venezuela, so I use a lot of social media to keep in contact. Also, music is one thing that keeps me in the best mood.” Baduel is the son of retired General in Chief of the Venezuelan Armed Forces, Raul Baduel, who served as Defense Minister of Venezuela from 2006 to 2008 under Hugo Chavez. Since the majority of Baduel’s family still live in Venezuela, he is currently staying with host John Hunter. When asked about what kind of person Baduel is, Hunter replied, “Raul is very polite. He is quiet and reserved until you get to know him, then he really opens up. He loves a good joke, but sometimes doesn't always tell them correctly, which is ok, and he loves pancakes! He eats them almost every morning.” Hunter continued, “I also coach baseball and Raul is happy to attend and help out. He is proving himself to be a great role model for the younger kids (7 to 13 age range). All the kids look up to him. He is an outstanding young man and a very talented baseball player.” Baduel is currently taking advantage of the opportunities presented to him. “I’m really thankful of God for the people that I am meeting in this great country. So, I’m just living this moment and making the best decisions in order to meet my goals, represent my country and my family.” Be sure to catch Raul Baduel and The Woodlands Strykers play this summer at The Woodlands Christian Academy .
