Meet the Sixth Form team

Sixth Form Open Evening

Trinity Catholic High SchoolTuesday 6th December 2016

Dr P. Doherty - Headmaster

For a while I considered the Catholic priesthood so I spent some years at Ushaw College Durham. I left when I realised I hadn’t a vocation and took a number of jobs: gardener, refuse collector, bus conductor and, on one occasion, Father Christmas! I then studied History at Liverpool and, much to my surprise and everybody else’s I won a scholarship to study my doctorate at Oxford. However, although I have a real passion for medieval history I realised that the academic life was not for me. I wrote one learned article, which could probably act as a cure for insomnia, then left the city of dreaming spires for pastures new. I have a zeal for history, teaching and for education. I gained my teaching qualification and worked in Ascot, Nottingham, West Sussex and in 1981 I moved to Trinity. My passion for history, teaching and education has not diminished. My main hobbies are cycling, (whether I like it or not because I can't drive), historical research and writing detective novels based in the classical and medieval era.

.

Miss Margaret Keegan – Director of Sixth Form

Having completed a degree in Chemistry, at Bath University, I

ventured into the world of Forensic Science for a short while.

Following this I qualified as a teacher and joined Trinity in 1983. I

spent a year teaching in Perth, in Western Australia, as part of an

exchange programme for commonwealth teachers. Since the start of

my career I have taught Chemistry to A level.

Prior to my current post, as Director of Sixth Form, I have been Head

of Chemistry, Head of Science and Director of Personnel and

Specialisms. I am passionate about Chemistry and Education and it

has been my absolute pleasure and privilege to combine these two

loves with work with young people for the last 33 Years.

My hobbies include long walks in Epping Forest with my dog, Horse

riding and travel.

Mrs Christine Leslie – Head of Year 12

After completing a “Maitrise” degree in Social Sciences at the

Sorbonne University in Paris I went on to study journalism. It lead to

a very short career in PR before moving to London. I started at

Trinity in 2000 as a French assistant, began my teacher training the

following year and qualified in 2003. Since starting at Trinity I have

taught French to A Level and also taught Media for a few years. I

am the Teacher in Charge of French and it is my third year as

Head of Year 12. This is without a doubt a very challenging but

also an extremely rewarding role to help the students make the

smoothest and most successful transition possible from GCSE to A

Levels.

My two eldest sons studied at Trinity and my youngest is still in yr11.

In my spare time I like to read French and English literature, I am

learning to play the guitar, I travel as much as possible and I like

to discover new places in London.

.

Mrs Vanessa Abrahams

Having completed a degree in English Language & Literature at Kings College London, I completed a teaching qualification at the Institute of Education. Teaching has and always will, be the career for me. I am currently Key Stage 4 coordinator for the English department and also hold a teaching and learning post within Sixth Form.

Prior to becoming a parent myself and consequently working part time, I was a Head of Year for 8 years which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have a passion for the teaching of English Language and Literature and my enthusiasm has not waned since I became a teacher 14 years ago.

.

Mrs Laura Law

Having completed a degree in Modern Languages and Communication studies at Nottingham Trent University, I spent 7 years working for top London advertising agencies on TV, radio and press as well as online advertising for clients such as Tesco, The Economist, Halifax and the Government. In 2004 I took a year's sabbatical to travel "around the world" and particularly enjoyed exploring Central and South America and South East Asia. I have loved languages since my own secondary school days and relished the opportunity to combine these and working with young people when I retrained as a teacher. Since joining Trinity in 2009, I have taught French, Spanish and Business Studies. I have worked closely with many Sixth Form students, helping them prepare for lives post education and spent over two years as Head of Year 13.

I have baby twins and a cat who all keep me busy but one day when life is quieter, I would love to resume my travels, read a good book and learn Mandarin Chinese.

.

Mrs Sharon Hughes – Year 12 administrator

I have been working in Trinity Sixth Form since September

2014 and have very much enjoyed working with the young

adults here. Watching them mature over Year 12 is very

rewarding, whilst catching a glimpse of the adult that they

will become.

I have two children, both are students here at Trinity. My

previous employment history includes working for a Trade

Union and also in the scaffolding industry.

I am a qualified florist, so, playing with flowers is a hobby of

mine, along with cooking, watching TV and travelling.
