F.C. Hibberd & Co. began manufacturing this series of locomotives in 1932. Vast numbers of locomotives were produced, and were used in a variety of gauges from 2’ to Broad Gauge. At least five Planet locomotives came to Australia. The narrow gauge versions were sent to Kalgoorlie to work at mines, and now reside at the Bennet Brook Railway. Three standard-gauge versions were used in NSW. Two owned by the Water Board, working on Warragamba Dam, Spit Bridge, and operations at the Ryde Pumping station, and one for the Maritime Services shunting at Coffs Harbour. These now reside at the Richmond Vale Railway Museum, Dorrigo Steam and Railway Museum, and Lachlan Valley Railway. The Maxitrak model is based on the 2’ gauge locomotives, and takes design features from the entire range to produce an attractive representation of these workhorses, in green, maroon, and yellow. Meet the Locomotives:

PLANET

The named “Planet” locomotives can be

traced back to the Kent Construction and

Engineering Company in the UK. F.C. Hibberd

& Co. began manufacturing this series of

locomotives in 1932. Vast numbers of

locomotives were produced, and were used

in a variety of gauges from 2’ to Broad

Gauge.

At least five Planet locomotives came to Australia. The narrow

gauge versions were sent to Kalgoorlie to work at mines, and

now reside at the Bennet Brook Railway. Three standard-gauge

versions were used in NSW. Two owned by the Water Board,

working on Warragamba Dam, Spit Bridge, and operations at

the Ryde Pumping station, and one for the Maritime Services

shunting at Coffs Harbour. These now reside at the Richmond

Vale Railway Museum, Dorrigo Steam and Railway Museum,

and Lachlan Valley Railway.

The Maxitrak model is based on the 2’ gauge locomotives, and takes

design features from the entire range to produce an attractive

representation of these workhorses, in green, maroon, and yellow.
