MEEM Cable Desktop App User Guide - Windows

Installation and User Guide - v0.9 Before reading this, please read the MEEM Cable and Mobile App User Guide for either iOS or Android. This will give you instructions for how to setup and use the MEEM app which is necessary before being able to use the MEEM Cable Desktop App. These user guides can be found on our Help page at the bottom under DOWNLOADS at https://www.meemmemory.com/support/ Using MEEM desktop application, you can view and save the backed up data from your MEEM cable to your Windows PC / laptop.

INSTALLATION ➢ Download the installation file named setup.exe (as shown in picture 1). This can be found on our Help page at

the bottom under DOWNLOADS at https://www.meemmemory.com/support/

➢ Before starting the installation, it is recommended you close all applications and temporarily disable your antivirus software. Antivirus software can prevent proper installation of MEEM. You can check setup program for any virus or malware before installation anyway.

➢ Double click on the downloaded file to install. You may click the ‘Cancel’ button at any stage of the

installation to cancel the installation. ● If you get a warning message window saying: “Windows protected your PC” (as shown in picture

2), please follow these steps.

● In the warning message window, click on ‘More Info’. ● In the next window (as shown in picture 3), click on the ‘Run anyway’ button.

➢ Wait for the License Agreement window to be displayed (as shown in the picture 4)

➢ Please read the license agreement carefully and only then select ‘I accept the agreement’. Then click the

‘Next’ button.

➢ In the next window, select the destination location by clicking on the ‘Browse’ button (as shown in picture

5) and then click the ‘Next’ button.

● The default location will be C:\Program files (recommended) ● Please note that for successful installation, a minimum of 64.1 MB of free disk space should be

available in the selected destination location.

➢ In the next window, check the box ‘Create a desktop shortcut’ (as shown in picture 6) to easily access the application from the desktop screen. Click the ‘Next’ button.

➢ In the ‘Ready to Install’ window, click the ‘Back’ button to change the destination location (as shown in picture 7). Otherwise, click the ‘Install’ button to complete the installation.

➢ Please wait for the installation to complete (as shown in picture 8).

➢ In the installation complete window, please click the ‘Finish’ button to exit the setup wizard (as shown in picture 9).

➢ Please note that the check box ‘Launch MEEM Desktop’ would be checked by default (as shown in picture 10) so that the MEEM Desktop app launches automatically after installation.

➢ The shortcut to access the MEEM Desktop application will be created after successful installation (as shown in picture 11). Double clicking on the same will launch the application.

USAGE GUIDE This section describes the operation of desktop application when MEEM cable is connected to your Windows PC/Laptop using the USB port. For wireless operations, please refer to section Using MEEM Cable over Wireless Please follow the steps below to use the MEEM Desktop application:

➢ Connect the MEEM cable to the device and the Windows PC / laptop ➢ Wait for the app to auto-launch on your smartphone or tablet ➢ Stop the auto backup on the mobile device’s app ➢ Navigate to Menu > Modes of MEEM > select “Desktop mode” and click ‘OK’ in the MEEM pop-up (as

shown in picture 12) ➢ Once you select this mode, the cable will be disconnected from device internally and the battery will not

charge. If desired, you may disconnect the cable from the mobile device. ➢ However, note that the cable should remain connected to the Windows PC / laptop

➢ Wait for the MEEM desktop app to auto-launch in Windows PC / laptop ➢ Enter the 4 digit PIN, the one that was used to register / set up the new cable and click the ‘Login’ button

(as shown in the picture 13)

➢ After successful login, the default cable name ‘MEEM’ will be displayed in the left hand pane of the app screen as shown in picture 14

The blue coloured USB symbol prefixed to the cable name indicates that the MEEM cable is connected to the MEEM Desktop app via the physical USB cable.

Note: Launching the MEEM application without connecting the cable to Windows PC / laptop will display the message ‘Please Connect Cable…’ (as shown in picture 15 below)

SAVING BACKUP UP DATA TO WINDOWS PC / LAPTOP ➢ In the left hand pane of the app, double click on the cable name (default name is ‘MEEM’) to view the names

of the backed up devices on the cable ➢ Up to 3 devices can be backed up to the MEEM cable. All the backed up devices names in the cable will be

displayed one below the other. ➢ You may use the down arrow button or double click on the ‘MEEM’ to expand / collapse the list of mobile

devices backed up ➢ Double click on the device name (in this case ‘Lge’) to view the supported categories (Contacts, Messages,

Calendar, Photos, Videos, Music and Documents) from which the data will be backed up. Please refer to picture 16.

➢ Double click on the category names (e.g. Photos) to view the Sync & Archive folders as shown in picture 17

➢ Click on the Sync folder to view the backed up data. The number of files will be displayed at the bottom right corner (highlighted in green) as shown in picture 18.

➢ Select the file(s) using the Control key and clicking on the desired file (s) icons, right click and click ‘Save’ button (as shown in picture 19)

➢ Desktop users may hold the Control key on their keyboard, hold the right click on their mouse and move the pointer to select all files at once.

➢ Laptop users may hold the left button down on the trackpad and move the pointer to select all files at once.

➢ As soon as the selected data is saved to the local folder, the dialog box ‘Transfer Completed’ with the

buttons ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ will be displayed as shown in picture 20. Clicking on ‘Yes’ button will open the destination folder where the files are saved.

Picture 20 ➢ Please follow the aforementioned steps to save the backed up data from other categories

as well.

➢ The saved files will be saved under their respective category name as the folder name, which is in turn saved in the folder named after the device of which the data was backed up from. Please refer to picture 21.

➢ The photos will be saved under the folder name photos. So would be the case with other categories data.

➢ To cancel the data transfer, please click the ‘Cancel’ button at the bottom right corner (highlighted in green color) of the application (as shown in picture 22)

Saving the backed up contacts to Windows PC/laptop: ➢ Navigate to Contacts > Sync or Archive > select the contacts > right click and save ➢ Contacts (whether one single contact or multiple contacts) will be saved with the filename

‘contacts’ (as shown in picture 23) which is a vCard file (vcf) format.

➢ Double click on the contacts file, select Windows Contacts in the applications list add click the OK button

(as shown in picture 24)

➢ In the upcoming windows click on ‘Add to my contacts’ and OK’ buttons respectively (as shown in picture 25) to save the contacts one at a time.

Important note: Text Messages and Calendar events cannot be saved to the local Windows PC/laptop

USING MEEM CABLE WIRELESSLY The desktop app can connect to a MEEM cable wirelessly over your local WIFI network. For this a MEEM cable must be connected to your smartphone or tablet and that device should be on the same network as your Windows PC/Laptop. This feature will be automatically activated if you launch the desktop app without connecting MEEM cable to the USB port. When the MEEM desktop application is connected to a MEEM cable wirelessly, it supports the Automatic Copy feature. This feature, when enabled, automatically saves the backed up data in your cable to the ‘Documents’ folder (this can be changed to whatever folder you would like) on your Windows PC/Laptop wirelessly. This allows you to have a complete or partial backup of your MEEM cable on your Windows PC/Laptop. To enable the automatic copy, please follow the steps below:

1. Launch the MEEM Desktop app without connecting the MEEM cable. 2. In the top left-hand side of the app, click ‘About’ and select ‘MEEM Settings’ as shown in picture 26

3. In the MEEM Settings window, check the ‘Automatic copy after backup’ box, then select the categories you would like to backup to your Windows PC/Laptop. Then close the same (as shown in the picture 27). To close this window, user may either click the ‘Cancel’ button or the ‘X’ button.

4. Ensure that the Windows PC/Laptop with MEEM Desktop app and your smartphone or tablet with the MEEM App are connected to the same Wifi network. Internet access is not required for this but you must be connected to the same network.

5. On the mobile device, plug the MEEM cable into the device and wait for the MEEM app to auto-launch.

6. Stop the auto backup, navigate to Menu > Settings > MEEM Network, and slide the switch to turn it on.

7. The MEEM Desktop app will start searching for the available mobile device and the MEEM cable to connect to, as shown in picture 28.

8. Wait for the MEEM Desktop app to connect to the mobile device with the MEEM cable and display the login screen, as seen in picture 13.

9. Login using the correct 4 digit PIN.

10. After a successful login, the default cable name ‘MEEM’ will be displayed in the app screen. The blue colored Wi-Fi symbol prefixed to the cable name indicates that the MEEM cable is successfully connected wirelessly to the MEEM Desktop app, as shown in picture 29.

11. Initiate the backup operation on the mobile device and wait for it to complete.

12. As soon as the backup is completed on the mobile device, the desktop app will refresh automatically and start copying the backed up data.

13. Once the backed up data is copied to the local folder on your Windows PC/Laptop, the dialog box ‘Open the folder’ will be displayed as shown in picture 20. Clicking on ‘Yes’ will open the destination folder.

Important note:

1. During auto copy, no other operation is possible in the MEEM desktop app however your computer is completely useable otherwise.

2. To disable the automatic copy, uncheck the ‘Automatic copy after backup’ box

3. The default destination folder, ‘Documents’, can be changed according to the user’s choice by navigating to About > MEEM Settings > clicking on the Choose button and selecting the desired destination folder as shown in picture 30.

4. If there’s an update available for the MEEM Desktop app, a pop-up telling you that there is an update available will appear as soon as the desktop app is launched as long as your Windows PC/Laptop has internet access, as shown in picture 31. Click the ‘OK’ button in the pop-up and go to ww.meemmemory.com/download to download and install the latest version of the MEEM Desktop app.

Alternatively, to check if the updates are available for the already installed MEEM Desktop app, launch the MEEM Desktop app, click on About > Check for update, as shown in picture 32. Again, Windows PC/Laptop should have internet access.

5. Similarly, if there’s no update available for the MEEM Desktop app, a pop-up telling the same will appear as soon as the app is launched, provided the Windows PC/Laptop has internet access, as shown in picture 33.

Saving items to your computer will allow you to free up space on your device and MEEM cable. Information deleted off your device and MEEM cable will be retained on the computer unless specifically deleted from your computer.
