DOSAGE: 500mg
MECHANISM OF ACTION: prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein
synthesis.
NURSING IMPLICATIONS: Do not administer concurrently with aluminum or magnesium
antacids
Monitor liver function tests; tolerance to medication; respiratory, cardiac, and fluid status of
nursing home patients being treated for pneumonia
INDICATIONS: Azithromycin is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of
the body. It can be used to treat Streptococcal infections of the throat, Chlamydial
infections, M.pneumoniae, C.jejuni, H.Influenzae, bronchitis, skin infections etc.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hepatic impairment, known hypersensitivity to azithromycin, other
macrolide antibiotics, or any azithromycin components; use with pimozide
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea -- up to 5 percent , Loose stools or -- up to 7 percent , Vomiting -- up
to 7 percent , Abdominal pain (or stomach pain) -- up to 3 percent , Headache-- up to 1 percent ,
Unexplained rash -- up to 2 percent.

MECHANISM OF ACTION: Potentiates the action of antithrombin III and thereby inactivates
thrombin (as well as activated coagulation factors IX, X, XI, XII, and plasmin) and prevents the
conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin; heparin also stimulates release of lipoprotein lipase
(lipoprotein lipase hydrolyzes triglycerides to glycerol and free fatty acids)
NURSING IMPLICATIONS: Do not administer I.M. due to pain, irritation, and hematoma
formation
INDICATIONS: Atrial fibrillation with embolization; Diagnosis and treatment of acute and
chronic consumption coagulopathies (disseminated intravascular coagulation);
Prevention of clotting in arterial and heart surgery;
Prophylaxis and treatment of peripheral arterial embolism;
As an anticoagulant in extracorporeal arterial circulation and dialysis procedures.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to heparin or any component; severe
thrombocytopenia; uncontrolled active bleeding except when due to DIC; suspected intracranial
hemorrhage; not for I.M. use; not for use when appropriate monitoring parameters cannot be
obtained
SIDE EFFECTS:__Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness
in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry, or bloody stools; bleeding
from gums when brushing or flossing teeth; blood in the urine; calf or leg pain, tenderness, or
swelling; chest pain; confusion; coughing up blood; excessive bleeding from cuts; fever or chills;
increased menstrual bleeding; lower back pain; nosebleeds; numbness or color change of the
skin, fingers, or toes; one-sided numbness or weakness; severe headache or dizziness; severe or

persistent pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site; shortness of breath; slurred speech;
stomach pain or swelling; unexplained vaginal bleeding; unusual bruising; vision problems;
vomit that looks like coffee grounds. ______
