A. The contest is open to all member schools of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges – Student Network
National Capital Region (APMC-SN NCR).
B. A school may only be represented by one chorale.
C. The chorale group must be composed of bona fide students of their respective schools at the time of the
competition, as proven by their certificates of enrollment for the current school year.
D. The chorale group must have a name. It could be its official registered name, the name of the school it represents,
or a newly formed name as long as the chorale group is identified.
E. The chorale group may be all male, all female, or mixed.
F. The chorale group must have a minimum of eight (8) and a maximum of thirty (30) members.
G. The chorale group may perform with or without a conductor. The conductor may or may not be a bona fide
student.
a. If the chorale group chooses to perform with a conductor, the conductor must be registered together with the
chorale group. Changes with the conductor may be accommodated given the validity of reason.
b. If the chorale group does not register a conductor, further changes will not be accommodated.
c. The chorale group may have a member of their group give the first note and first beat. However, if that member
continues to guide the group, he/she will be considered as an unregistered conductor and the corresponding
penalties shall apply.
II. MUSIC
A. Each chorale group is required to perform two pieces: one choice piece and one contest piece, the former of their
own choosing in their own pool of songs, the latter given by the Executive Committee of the Organizers. Both
pieces must be from the songs of Music Artists, either local or international, during the 1990 – 2005. Local Artists
should be from the Philippines. The chorale group may choose only one Music Artist.
Music Artist is defined as follows:
- Local or International Artist/s that have given a defining characteristic to the society and music industry
- Artist/s that rose to fame and had their peak popularity during 1990 – 2005
- Should have been well established
- Still well recognized
- Composers are excluded
B. Choices are not limited to songs from the Billboard Top 100 or the local Top 100/Top 50/Top 40/Year-end
Countdown/any available local top lists or year-end countdown by music TV shows or radio stations throughout
the duration of the time period. The chosen music should be an original song of the music artist.
1. Remakes and Revivals
a. Songs by artists not within the given time period revived or remade by the chosen music artist may not
be used (e.g. Tracy Chapman’s Baby Can I Hold You in 1988, revived by Boyzone in 1997).
b. Songs by artists within the given time period revived or remade by the chosen music artist may not be used.
If the performers would like to use the song, the original artist should be used as a music Artist (e.g. SWV’s
Weak released in 1992, revived by Jojo in 2005)
2. Song/s chosen for the choice piece are defined as follows:
- Original Music done by the artist alone (e.g. duets, song with collaborating artists are not included)
- Release date of the song / soundtrack / single will be counted, not the release of album (e.g. Katy Perry’s
Teenage Dream Album released in August 2010, E.T. single was released in February 2011)
C. Song pieces may be a single piece arrangement OR a medley arrangement of at least two songs. A medley is as a
piece of music composed from parts of existing pieces played one after another, sometimes overlapping. Medleys
include mash-ups, which is a piece of music created by blending two or more songs.
D. All pieces must be performed entirely a capella. An a capella is a performance without an instrumental
accompaniment; hence, any musical instruments are strictly not allowed. Body music is allowed as long as it is
notated in the official score. Body music is any music produced by the human body alone (except for stomping
[To bring the foot down onto an object or surface forcibly to make a sound] which includes an external surface). It
includes clapping (the act of striking two flat surfaces together), slapping (the act of striking something sharply
with the open hand), snapping (the act of creating a clicking sound with one’s fingers), stepping (the act of raising
the foot and bringing it down to the ground), and vocalizing (the act of giving voice to). Stomping of the feet will
NOT be allowed. Body music that is not notated in the official score is strictly not allowed.

order is not allowed.

IV. CRITERIA AND SYSTEM FOR JUDGING
A. There will be a panel of 5 judges.
B. Each judge shall evaluate the performances based on the following criteria:
Technique
Intonation / Diction
Chorale blend and balance
Rhythmic Accuracy
Execution of Dynamics
Vocal Tone / Color
42.5%
Musical and Artistic Interpretation
Interpretation
Expression
42.5%
Difficulty of Chorale Piece (The difficulty of chorale piece criterion shall only be applicable to the choice
piece performance. A perfect score of 10% shall automatically be given for the
contest piece performance.)
10%
Overall Performance 5%
TOTAL 100%
C. The overall rating for each competing team shall be based on the following components:
Contest Piece Performance 60%
Choice Piece Performance 40%
TOTAL 100%
D. The final grading of performances shall be done via a RANK SYSTEM. Each judge shall rank the performances
according to his/her overall ratings with 1 being the highest rank and so on until all competing teams are ranked.
E. In case of a tie for a rank, the average of the numerical ranks for the number of tied teams shall be used. (e.g. two
teams tied for second place shall both be ranked 2.5 [(2nd + 3rd)/2]).
F. For each competing team, the cumulative rank shall be computed as the summation of the ranks for the team by
each of the judges. The average rank will then be computed by dividing the cumulative rank by the number of judges
(5).
G. The team with the highest average rank (or the lowest numerical value of average rank) shall be declared the winner
of the competition.
H. In the event of a tie, there will be three levels of tie breaking system used until a sole winner is decided. The levels
are arranged as follows:
1. In case of a tie for an average rank, the winner shall be decided by the number of “1.0” ratings awarded
by the panel of judges, with the winner being the team having the most “1.0” ratings. In case of an equal
number of “1.0” ratings, the number of “2.0” ratings shall be considered, and so on, until the tie is broken.
2. In case there still remains a tie, the winner will be decided upon a secret ballot among the Judges through
dropping of only ONE name of a team in a box. The number of votes per team will be counted and the
team with the highest number of votes will be declared as the winner.
3. However, if there still remains a tie, in the event of an even number of judges, the percentage down to the
last decimal of the tied team will be the basis for breaking the tie.
I. Runner-ups shall be determined with the judging system stated in (E), (F), and (G) of this section.
Example:

unregistered conductor
