EQ: What do you need to know for your test on medieval music?
Concepts• Feudalism- Be able to explain it in a few
sentences• Church Modes- Know all 7 modes and what notes
each one starts on• Treble Clef- Identify the lines and the spaces• Troubadours- what are they? Can you name one?• Composers: We studied two of them. Be able to
name them, know their birth and death dates, and the piece of music each was most famous for.
• Instruments: Identify by listening, know which instrument family it belongs to, and draw them
• Sacred vs. Secular- Be able to tell the difference
Questions• What role did the church play in the medieval
era? • How many years did the medieval time period
last?• Did men or women typically sing chant?• Which mode is the same as a modern major
scale?

How Should You Study?
• Make sure you have all the pages of readings and go back and ACTUALLY READ THEM. (pgs. 11-19)
• Go to the music history Wiki and check out the PowerPoints that have all of the listening examples on them…and then LISTEN
• Be able to define all terms right off the top of your head
• Use this as a guide and be comfortable explaining all the concepts listed
