“We would like to thank all concerned at Indexmedica for the excellent treatment that my husband and I have received. Arranging it all by e-mail

with your English speaking administrator could not have been easier. The advanced facilities at your clinic and the friendliness of your staff quickly

dispelled any initial fears we may have had, but most especially we cannot praise too highly the skill, expertise and kindness of our dentist Artur

Wojcicki. We have already recommended you to family and friends and look forward to visiting you and your beautiful city again in the future.

With very best wishes.”Helen and Barry Pritchard.

“Hi ya,Thanks for all your excellent work. I feel your services as dentists is excellent and would recommend anyone considering a lot of dental work to use your

practice. My sister was very nervous and anxious and our dentist could not have been more patient. We have yet to finish all the work my mother is at the

second stage of the implantation process but so far so good. We have already told friends and family about you and that says a lot. A great team of people at

the practice.Thank you all.”

Maria de Chiara

“Good morning and how are you, I would be delighted to give my opinion for your web site.

My name is Graham Bell, and have been looking to get some implants for both lower and upper jaw’s. I waited for nearly 18 months for a

consultation, at the Glasgow School for Dentists, I finally received a date and was looking forward to getting some good news on me being able to one

communicate and also eat again with no problems and lot’s of confidence. So the big day arrived, and I sat in the chair for the examination, for

approx 15 minutes, then the consultant informed me that, I was not suitable for bone implantation, because of very thin bone structure, also he mentioned

that implants on the upper jaw was not to successful, as you can imagine I was devastated, gobsmacked to put it mildly. Well that was that, so nearly 6 years later I was surfing on the net and started to look at implantation,

and people specializing on implantation, the website I looked at was Indexmedica, the web site was easy to look through, and I sent

a email requesting some more information, within 10 days a letter arrived through my letter box. So I sent another email to Indexmedica to say I was

interested, in coming over for a consultation. They informed me that they would pick me up from the airport and arrange accommodation for the two days I was there, and guess what it was free, consultation, accommodation,

travel to and from the airport.Well that saved me a lot of hassle, trying to get to and from the airport, also

booking hotels etc. So Sebastian arranged everything for me, the next day he took me to get a panoramic x-ray. Then on to the tomographie for a 3d

image of my bone structure, ie, CT scan, Cost 200 slotty very cheap I say. That would have cost a lot in the UK. Then the same day, I went to see

the Implantologist Arthur, Lovely guy spoke very good English. Then after his examination he showed me the Tomographie pictures and showed me

the biggest implant he had, also on a negative. Just to show me how much bone I still had, also surrounding the implant. To which I asked so can I get

implants, and he replied no problem, as you can imagine I was overjoyed, and estatic.

The moral of the story, dont ever give up on implants, from being told there was no chance, to being told no problem.

For me was wonderfull also added to that a great service from Indexmedica, at great prices, of which I could never be able to afford in the UK. I have

nothing but praise for the team at Indexmedica, my emails were answered quickly and contained all the information I needed to help me make a

decision to have my dental treatment at Idexmedica. The fact that all the people I met whilst I had my treatment spoke english well, meant that at no time was I in any doubt at what was to happen and in the order

the treatment would take place, the other important point is that the free accomodation and being met at the airport meant the whole process was trouble free. The last point and maybe the most important one is the cost of treatment, what I had done would have cost me three times as much

in England, put this all togeather means that the package you offer is unbeatable.

Best Regards”Graham Bell

“I felt very comfortable in your consulting room. Everyone was very nice to me.

At first I was quite afraid, for I did not know what to expect. Now I am very satisfied with your treatment and thus would like to

continue it and will tell about you to my friends.”Brenda Waits

“Your consulting room is much very well equipped than those from the area I live in.

Thanks to my new caps I can smile a wide smile again. I will surely advertise your services.”

Camila Sanders

“I could hardly imagine a dental surgery without pain - but you proved it possible.

With regards”Henry Wood

“If I had known about your treatment before, I would not have any dental detriments now.

Thanks to my new implants I feel much younger, prettier and more confident.”

Susan Hong

„ I am very satisfied with the aesthetic outcome of your work. Because of permanent contact with the customers it is quite vital for me to look nice.

Moreover most of the expenses for my dental treatment were covered by by Health Service in the country.”

What implants do you use and how long does the treatment take?We use Nobel Biocare implants. In March 2006 we received the authorization of the best-known and the biggest implant producer - the Swed-ish company Nobel Biocare. This was the first company which placed implants 40 years ago. This company pays attention to a continuous development of technologies and is still modernizing its products. Nobel Biocare im-plants have a 10-years quarantee which is accepted by all authorized dentist’s offices in the world.

How long does the treatment with implants take?First visit - approximately 7 days (weekend included). After the first visit we need to wait at least 4-6 months, this is the healing period. The patient receives a tempo-rary denture or uses his own denture during this time. After approximately 4-6 months it is possible to come for the second visit which takes 7-10 days (weekends in-cluded). During this visit crowns are put on the implants and the work is finished.

How much can I save? For example let’s take the case of a patient from the UK who needs to have 6 Nobel Biocare implants placed. (No-bel Biocare implants are the best implants in the world, we possess the authorization of this company). In the UK he has to pay 12 000 £ for 6 implants (2 000 £ for each implant). In our clinic he pays only 3000 £ for 6 exactly the same implants (approx. 500 £ for each implant). The dentist in the UK charges 9000 £ more than our experi-enced surgeon. The placing of the 6 implants takes ap-prox. two hours.

Why are there so huge price differences in Europe? If it is cheaper in Germany than in the UK does it mean that the British use better materials? No, the prices in countries depend in principle on two factors. The first factor is the wealth of the given country. Be-cause the citizens of the UK, Ireland and Switzerland are one of the richest citizens of the European Union the dental services are there very expensive. The second factor is the amount of dentists in a country. It is commonly known that there are few dentists in the UK, for example much fewer than in Germany, thats why the patients have to wait very long for a visit and the dentists are very busy and increase the prices.

Let’s analyse another example, this time from Germany. Some time ago a very nice patient from Germany came to our clinic. She requested the most expensive crowns in the world - the Swedish Procera crowns. One such crown costs in Munich approx. 2000 - 2500 €. The same crown costs in our clinic 500 €. For ten crowns she would have to pay 20 000 € in Munich but she paid only 5000 € in our clinic. What is interesting, is the fact that these crowns are neither made in Germany nor in Poland. The dentist prepares the teeth for the crowns, after this the scan of the situation is sent electronically to a laboratory in Sweden and after a few days crowns are delivered from Sweden. The preparation for these crowns isn’t easy and take approx. 20 working hours. It is easy to count that for these 20 hours of work the dentist in Munich takes 15 000 € more than we and when we take 5 000 €, we also make a profit on it. This example shows clearly that the prices of dental services when using the same materials can differ on several hundreds per cent in countries that are only several hundreds kilometers away from each other.

ing here so as to give Indexmedica to arrange appoint-ments and hotel reservation.

Questions and answers concerning implantation.

What are the advantages of implantation? These false teeth not only resemble real ones but you can also feel them. They prevent from bone and gum diminution, which often take place while wearing partial clasp dentures, bridges, telescopes, and press-studs as well as normal dentures. Moreover neighbouring teeth do not have to suffer, for they do not have to change in order to give room for a false tooth. These false teeth are very reliable as they do not get loose nor chatter or move.

Can false teeth be loaded immediately? False teeth burdening depends on their number in mouth and on the quality of the rest of the teeth. Every such decision must be taken individually whether immediate teeth burdening is pointless or not.

I have been wearing false teeth for a year now and so would like to ask how to take care of them? They should be taken care of in exactly the same way as your real teeth.

How much time should it take between real tooth extraction and implantation? After tooth extraction, cavity bones are usually in a very good condition; thus BOI false teeth can be implanted straight away. Immediate implantation has very positive effects, because bone then has a very good blood supply and that is why such an implant is better adopted in the cavity.

About us

Cracow ophthalmologycentre Zoopticacentre centre

13

Who do we treat? The surgery is especially recommended for persons: • practising professions which require full vision

acuity (policemen, drivers, sportsmen - in these cases the correction of vision defects not exceeding 2D may be considered),

• with defect size preventing them from functioning without corrective glasses or subjectively felt as impeding unrestrained functioning in daily or professional life,

• who for various reasons may not wear contact lenses (e.g. recurrent inflammations of conjunctivas, neovascularisation of the cornea) or glasses (e.g. nickel allergy).

A defect has to be stable, i.e. one that has not changed for the last 6 months and a patient has to be aged between 21 and 50.

About the methodLaser correction of vision defects has been used for several years as a permanent method allowing the elimination of necessity to wear glasses or contact lenses. Several millions of patients have already benefited from the method. Such vision defects as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and their combinations may be corrected by using an excimer laser beam.Cracow Ophthalmology Centre „ZOOPTICA” performs laser vision corrections using ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser, which is the most modern among commonly used lasers. ALLEGRETTO WAVE 200 Hz model 1009 excimer laser is one of the most advanced laser systems for refractive surgery manufactured by German concern WaveLight Laser Technologie AG. The concern holds ISO 9000 certificate and is the only European manufacturer of such equipment, which was admitted by FDA for use in the American market. Apart from excellent equipment for obtaining expected results, it is vital to have experienced refractive surgeons. Qualifications for surgeries and the very vision correction surgeries are performed by Prof. Stanisława Gierek-Ciaciura, PhD habilitated and Doctor of Medical Sciences as well as by Dorota Wygledowska-Promienska, PhD and Doctor of Medical Sciences. Their experience in this field of ophthalmology is based on thousands of surgeries performed during the last several years.

Laser vision correction may be carried out using the following methods:LASIK - LASER IN-SITU KERATOMILEUSISLASIK method makes it possible to correct greater and more sophisticated defects and operating both eyes at the same time. It also allows a patient to return to his normal routine even on the next day after the surgery, because vision acuity is achieved after a few hours from the surgery and the wound heals without causing any pain.

PRK - PHOTOREPHRACTIVE KERATECTOMY it facilitates the correction of minor defects up to 3D. Ophthalmologists recommend a two weeks’

14

break period between surgeries performed on both eyes and it is also possible to operate both eyes at the same time. Following PRK surgery it takes a few days for the cornea to reconstruct epithelium. During this period it is necessary to wear sterile dressing or sterile contact lenses, which are removed after 7 days. A patient gradually regains his vision acuity and recuperation lasts for about two weeks.

LASEKsimilarly to PRK procedure, LASEK involves modifying of cornea’s surface layer. The difference is that the cornea’s surface layer is covered again with the folded epithelium cells. They constitute a natural protection of the operated area and diminish pain of the healing epithelium.

EPILASIKin this method, laser penetration is limited to the outer layer of the stroma and the flap is subsequently put back into place. Strong points of the procedure are quicker healing of the cornea and a risk of post-operative complication lesser than in the case of LASIK.

SafetyTaking into account the significance of our vision condition for quality of life, safety in refractive surgery has a fundamental meaning. The safety is ensured in WaveLight Laser by the use of so-called perfect pulse technology. This sophisticated technology ensures that each surgery and each laser beam are fully controlled: - it ensures the stability of laser energy in actual time,- it eliminates the influence of such external factors as humidity and temperature by its full tightness of optic system,By using ultra quick eye tracking system following even the quickest eye ball movements, it ensures that each pulse of the laser beam is located in exactly planned pint of the cornea. If a patient moves his/her eye during ablation, the operation is still perfectly carried out. If eye movements are too violent the laser stops emitting a beam to start again at the stopping point automatically after the eye has regained its fixation.

PrecisionIn order to achieve a precise effect of the surgery, the ophthalmologist has to specify a patient’s exact vision defect and his/her condition of health. The examination results are introduced to the laser system, which sets each pulse of laser beams with small diameters and high frequency based on the results and in such a way that the cornea surface is carefully modified point by point.

EffectivenessALLEGRETTO WAVE system reduces the actual time of laser beam ablation on the cornea surface to a few seconds (4 seconds/D). The average time is several seconds e.g. 16 seconds for 4 dioptre vision defect correction. The short surgery time reduces the risk of infection and minimizes time in which the uncovered cornea is exposed to external factors as well as it limits the drying of the cornea. Clinical tests indicate that the short surgery time shortens the time of cornea healing, recuperation of vision after the surgery and stability of the correction effects.

Implantations of lensesA method for vision defect correction for all persons, who may not undergo laser vision correction due to their age, defect size exceeding the capabilities of laser correction surgery (nearsightedness exceeding – 14D and farsightedness exceeding + 6 D) or other absolute counterindications, consists of two types of surgeries involving implantation of phakic intraocular lenses, which effectively correct vision defects: - implantation of a phakic lens;- removal of a patient’s lens by phacoemulsification method and implantation of phakic intraocular lens (IOL).

eye has regained its fixation.

Legend says that the salt mines in Wieliczka were part of the dowry of the Hungarian princess, Kinga, when she wed Bolesław the Shy over 700 years ago, making the Wielic-zka Salt Mine one of the oldest in all Europe. According to the legend Kinga threw her engagement ring into the salt shaft. When the wedding procession was approaching Cra-cow, she showed the place where she ordered to dig up the jewel. As result extensive ledges of salt were discovered. Archaeologists, however, have their own theories on Wielic-zka’s history. Excavations prove that salt was weigh in that area 3000 years before Christ. The oldest shaft ‚Gorycze-wski’ came into being in 1280 and then 10 years later Wie-liczka was given its civic rights. During 700 years 26 shafts

were drilled and over 2000 chambers layered on 9 different under-ground levels reaching from57 to 327 metres deep. Pavements and shafts as long as 350 km all together con-nect them.

Vaults are available for tourists only with a tour guide, in groups 35 (entrance fee 38 zł). This tourist path is 2 km long and proceeds at the depth of 64 to 125 metres underground, leading to 20 monumental chambers, con-nected by pavements. Visiting lasts about 2 hours and starts with a descent by means of 380 wooden stairs to Daniłowicz’s shaft.

The most glamorous from all the underground chambers is St. Kinga’s chapel (54 m long, 17 m wide and 12 m high), it may give room to 500 people. All the walls, floors and chandeliers,

three altars and sculp-tors are made of salt by miners-sculptors, brothers Józefa i To-masza Markowskich, Antoniego Wyrodka oraz Ignacego Mar-kowskiego.

The Warszawa cham-ber is the biggest drift (56 m long, 15 m wide, 8 m high), while Staszic chamber is the highest (42 m!). There is also one of the most beautiful salty lakes lying 100 m underground in Barącza chamber. Its depth is up to 9 m and undisturbed brine surface has an incredible green colour.

At the depth of 200 m there is a health resort. Tem-perature there is always from +13 to +15 degrees and air humidity: 80-92%. There are many patients suffer-ing from asthma, allergies and rheumatics treated. In the 70 s of the last decade this mine earned a place on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage list.
