Media use in school age children How the information will inform my teaching
• In the age of Information Technology, everyone has access to internet and other technologies such as televisions, play stations, and DVD players and it is important to educate students on maintaining a healthy lifestyle of regular exercise and healthy eating. We decided to target our presentation to students in the age of 11 to 15 years old
• Another aspect we focused on is the time of the year. The autumn would be the best time for the introduction of this topic as the temperature drops and students tend to avoid outdoor activities during this time.
• We focus particularly on the negative aspects of media use, because students tend to prefer the media to a healthier physical activity. Maintaining a correct physical activity is useful at any age.
• This topic is important to the students/school/community because it will help to enrich our lives by emphasizing the importance of physical exercise and healthy eating
Media use in school age childrenMy experience creating an interdisciplinary
activity• I think that this assignment has been very
useful for me, because we do not only have something we can focus and base on for students in the age of 11 and 15, but we have also experience in creating an assignment that is cross curricular.
• If from one point of view I had familiarity and I enjoy working with Microsoft Power Point, that I think is a useful tool in our hand to teach, I was introduced for my first time to Statistic Canada.
• Overall I was positively impressed by this assignment and I think it was a great idea, because it has helped me discovering several and interesting tools that I will definitely use in my future classes.
Questions Related to Graph• Why do you think 13 year-olds are
the biggest age group to use television and internet?
• Why do you think there is a difference between the eating habits of 13-year-old boys and 13-year-old girls?
• Is there an increase in physical activity of students during weekend hours? If yes, why?
