Mike grew up in Connecticut and Michigan and early on found himself fascinated with the “magic of radio, and especially, his favorite station, Detroit rocker WRIF. He relocated to South Florida in the early 90’s and quickly launched himself an internship at Power96. It wasn’t to long before he was a regular contributor to their morning show and soon an integral part of all promotional elements at the station. When Mike started out, it was only a dream. He reminisces, “I told my dad I wanted my own tour bus and he said yeah right, who doesn’t!” Now you will find his custom-wrapped Prevost tour bus wherever and whenever there is a major event in South Florida. It’s hard to imagine a Super Bowl, Heat Championship, major concert event or fundraiser without one or more of Mobile Mike’s armada of promotional vehicles; cars; super-trucks, skylights and banner-toting airplanes. It wasn’t long before Mike drew the attention of other radio companies looking to put his marketing machine into action. He worked five years at Cox radio before joining Clear Channel’s group of Miami stations that include Y100, BIG 105.9, MEGA 94.9, 93.9 M-I-A, The Sports Animal 940 am and 103.5 Super X. Early on he knew that it had to be about a lot more than just making money. His magnetic personality and his willingness to jump into projects with both feet attracted the interest of various community organizations and leaders. Whenever there is a natural disaster or a law-enforcement emergency you’ll find the Mobile Mike team supplying relief to the first responders. There aren’t many police of firefighters in any of the are agencies that don’t know him by first name (that’s Mike, not Mobile). A few years ago a federal agent was shot and killed at a Pembroke Pines post office. A multi-agency taskforce and command center we establish to coordinate the investigation. And within the first hours, Mike had brought his self-contained catering trailer on-site to feed the hundreds of officers involved. He established several community-based events that attract the attention and appreciation of Sout Floridians. Two

of Mike’s annual favorites include the Thanksgiving Turkey giveaways that provide a free turkey to thousands of families each November and his annual Toy Drive each December. Mike started a promotion during one of another of our energy crises… Free Gas Friday. Free? Well, to the listeners… yes! Mike’s station announce all week that on Friday, the first one thousand drivers to show up at a to-be-announced location on Friday will receive a tank of gas. The location is revealed on-the-air on Friday morning and in addition to thousands of cars, you can be sure that one or more TV news helicopters will show up to chronicle the Mobile Mike marketing machine’s ability to attract a crowd on a moment’s notice! In the research process for this interview I tried to locate other radio personalities around the county that do the same things Mobile Mike does, but in speaking to radio managers nationwide the consensus seems to be, “Mobile Mike in South Florida? One of a kind!” The Mobile Mike foundation supports a multiplicity of deserving organization in South Florida. “One of a kind!” Based on each organizations needs Mobile Mike assists them in raising funds for their cause through many of his resources. Some of the community cause he is involved with include: Hollywood Police Athletic League, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Lauren’s Kids, County Blue Line Challenge, Miami Dolphins Foundation, American Cancer Society, Big Mama-Team of Life, Toys for Tots and Habitat for Humanity. Mike says, “My proudest recent effort involved raising five hundred and sixty thousand dollars in supplies for Haitian relief in just 18 hours. Health is wealth to me; being alive and happy, it’s… (He trails off in thought). You can always make something of your life… It’s never too late; you can never give up.” It’s been twenty years for Mike in South Florida. Mike says, It’s great, living the dream.”
