www.cefni.co.ukWhat is the ABC?The ABC stands for ‘Audit Bureau of Circulations’. It is a nonprofit organization which has grown its reputation within the media industry and has gained the respect of a lot of editors across the country. The ABC mark is to the printing industry, what the MOT certificate is to the automotive industry. Without an active MOT certificate, chances are, you would not buy the car. Without an ABC verified subscription list, you should re-evaluate before advertising with the non-ABC’d publication

What they do?The ABC perform an annual audit with the publisher, covering the mailing list (both physical and digital) to ensure that everyone on the list not only exists, but is requesting a copy of the magazine. The purpose of this is to combat fraudulent activity on a mailing list. Any publication without ABC membership would be unable to verify the authenticity of their mailing list which should leave potential advertisers asking questions.

Specify & The ABCSpecify Magazine have been working with the ABC for many years. We are proud of our ABC

membership as this helps us demonstrate our honesty to our clients. Our latest ABC certificate can been seen on this page.

The Advantages of Print, A recent study, undertaken by the Office of Inspector General in the US has discovered that our brainsprocess digital information in a different way to printed information. In the table below we can see that ‘x’ indicates the medium which performed better:

As you can see, there are some very interesting and somewhat surprising results. Although Digital performed well in important areas such as attention, engagement, memory retrieval

accuracy and finally willingness to pay which, although important factors, there do not tick all of the ‘influencing the customers purchase’ boxes. Physically printed media engaged the audience in many more areas when compared with Digital.

Some other interesting findings from the Study:

Digital ads were processed more quickly.Paper ads engaged viewers for more time.

• A week later, subjects showed greater emotional response and memory for physical media ads.

• Physical ads caused more activity in brain areas associated with value and desire.

It is hard to deny that Digital is certainly moving forward and making greater strides in the advertising industry however, print ads still hold a special bond with the reader and seems to have a greater and longer lasting influence. Another interesting point which was raised during the survey is that effective printed ads will drive digital purchases.

• Less distraction whilst holding a physical magazine • Print offers a long shelf life when compared with online ad’s • Digital ads tend to be processed quicker leaving less time to absorb

info

• No issues with battery life. Your magazine wont need charged every few hours

• Magazines are more effective tools for reaching a Specific Demographic • Print is much more engaging when compared with Digital
