The layout – Front Cover

I have incorporated a ‘selling line’ at thetop of my cover page, this is a powerfulquote from a band which includes the word‘ROCK’ with exclamation marks and willtherefore attract a suitable audience thatthe magazine is appealing to.

The house style that I have used is acombination of pink navy blue and yellow, Ihave used these colours because mymagazine is aimed at the youth of today,both males and females, therefore byincorporating these colours the magazinewill appeal to both genders as malesstereotypically like blue whereas girlsstereotypically like pink.

I have included a competition on the frontcover of my magazine, this is used to attractbuyers as the opportunity acts as a lure.

I know that readers of a music magazineare interested in live reviews of bandstherefore I have included a list of bands thatwill be reviewed

The main image is the most spaceconsuming item on the page, it has beenedited by using photo shop as I have cut



The layout – Contents Page

I have clearly headed the page with ‘Contents’to show the readers what page they are on and tohelp keep them aware and easily able to locatewhatever page they chose.

I have carried on the theme colours of Pink,blue and yellow onto the contents page, this is toshow that the magazine is well structured and iseasy on the eye.

The main image that I have used for thecontents page is that of a girl looking as if she isleaning against the sides of the magazine. Thesubject is shrugging indifferently which suits themagazine’s target audience as it gives theimpression that she has a bad attitude, this isappealing to a Rock N Roll audience. I have editedthe transparency of the image to create theillusion that the subject is in the background.

I have also included a section on my contentspage which shows what extra features will be

included in the magazine, this is used to enticethe reader with bands that they may recognise. Here I have clearly stated what topics will be

covered throughout the magazine and when, thisis once again, to make sure the reader is notconfused and knows where to find each article.

At the bottom of the page I have addedphotographs that represent what will be includedin the magazine, this acts as a hook to make thereader want to read on and find out more.

In the same black and white style that theheading has been made in, this is used with thepurpose of reminding the reader of the magazine

The Target Audience The target audience for my music

magazine is people aged 16 – 25 with a

general interest in rock music. I found my target audience by creating aquestionnaire to hand out to people inand around college, it containedquestions such as- What is your favorite music genre?- What artists do you like?- What artists do you dislike?

- What stereotype do you fit, if any? I have chosen to address teenagers and

young adults as opposed to middle agedpeople because younger minds aremore easily influenced and people of this young age usually fit a nichemarket more easily. I chose to aim my

magazine at those interested in Rockmusic because it is a popular choice of sound made by teenagers today, thismay because of the appealing‘rebellious’ mind set that often goeshand in hand with the Artists and fans of the genre. Also, the magazine targetsthe Rock market because music
