REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais operates in two main business areas:

Corporate Profile

The transmission of electricity at very high voltage and the overall technical management of the

National Electricity System;

The high-pressure transport of natural gas and overall technical management of the National

Natural Gas System, guaranteeing the reception, storage and regasification of LNG as well as the

underground natural gas storage.

Page 4: MEDIA KIT - REN

REN transmits electricity in Portugal and technically manages the national electricity system

through a concession contract established with the Portuguese state until 2057. REN operates the National Transmission Grid (RNT), which connects producers to the centres of consumption,

ensuring a balance between the demand for and supply of energy, guaranteeing the uninterrupted

supply of electricity at the lowest cost with the best quality of service and safety;

RNT access points allow the distributing grid to be fed, and is from where the majority of final

consumers are supplied. The retail energy companies are responsible for managing relations with

the final consumer, including billing and customer service;

REN has the specialist skills and know-how for the management and integration of renewable energy sources (RES) within the national electricity system, the result of the investment that

Portugal has made in this type of energy over recent years. According to 2013 figures, 57% of total

national consumption was provided by RES.

REN is responsible for the transportation of high-pressure natural gas and for the overall technical

management of the National Natural Gas System, guaranteeing the reception, storage and regasification of LNG as well as the underground natural gas storage, under the terms of the

concession contracts established with the Portuguese state until 2046. RNT access points allow the

distributing network to be fed, and is from where the majority of final consumers are supplied. The retail energy companies are responsible for managing relations with the final consumer,

including billing and customer service;

REN Gasodutos operates the National Natural Gas Transport Network (RNTGN), which receives the

natural gas at the Spanish border or at the Sines terminal, and forwards it to the distributors or to

final high-pressure customers;

The LNG terminal at Sines is operated by REN Atlântico and the underground natural gas storage is

the responsibility of REN – Armazenagem.
